Joan Curran Memorial Great Success:
On Sunday last there was a very good turnout for the first Major of the season, the Joan Curran Memorial kindly sponsored by the Curran family, Killossera in memory of Joan, a former Lady Captain and much respected member of West Waterford. The course was pristine thanks to Morrie and his crew while later in our re-vamped Clubhouse we were able to sample the delights from the kitchen thanks to Ken and all his staff. The old buzz is back in West Waterford!
Margaret O Sullivan, an integral part of the Operating committee in West Waterford was a very popular winner. Playing off a Playing Handicap of 25 Margaret played super golf to return a score of 41 points. Hot on Margaret’s heels, we had Trish O Shea with a playing handicap of 41 returning 40 points. A name for the notebook! The ever consistent Mary Lou Carroll with a playing handicap of 20 captured the Gross prize with 17 gross points, while her sister Frances filled the 3rd place slot with 38 points (on the countback) off a playing handicap of 38. Indeed 38 points was the magic figure in this competition as we had no less than three players with the same score! Cat A (0-23) was won by Joanne Fox, a regular on the Majors podium, with 38 points playing off a playing handicap of 23. Cat B (24-29) was captured by our hardworking Lady Captain Ciara Donnelly also with 38 points playing off a playing handicap of 29. Cat C (30-36) was won by Jean O Donovan, our esteemed Handicap Secretary with 37 points playing off a playing handicap of 29 while Cat D (37-54) was won by last year’s winner Kathleen Broderick with 34 points playing off a playing handicap of 38.
Mary Lou and Una Sizzle around the course: Recently Forde’s Daybreak Supermarket sponsored an 18 hole competition in West Waterford. There were two players in red hot form, namely Mary Lou Carroll who brought in a fine score of 42 points, closely followed by Una Mulligan who returned 41 points. Well Done ladies
