Comeragh Oil Winter League

Round 3 concluded on schedule on Sunday 6th February. Once again we had an excellent turnout throughout the week and we thank you all for your continued support. As you will see from the round 3 leaderboard, the Sharks and the Stallions cannot be separated and look like claiming the top two qualifying places. The remaining qualifying spots are still up for grabs and one big score could change everything. So it’s vital that all team members return a card for their respective teams. Many players are playing numerous rounds to keep their teams in contention. The message is clear, keep trying and you just might be the one to move your team up the table. Round 4 commences on Monday Feb 7th.

Augusta Beckons as Seamus finishes tied 9th in Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Seamus Power gave his hopes of a Masters debut another major boost with a record breaking performance in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am at the weekend. Finishing on 13 under par for the four rounds the West Waterford man moves up to 46th in the OWGR. He also move into 8th spot in the FedEx Cup rankings. While his second PGA Tour victory did not materialise, last weekend’s top 10 finish (his third of the season) might turn out to be his most crucial top-10 yet. Following a sensational first two rounds Seamus found the going tough on Saturday. “I’ve never played Monterey well and it kind of got me yesterday and took my momentum away. Overall, it was nice to pick up a couple of shots on the back.” “It’s weird to say after having a very good opening two rounds, but I didn’t have my best game this week. But I was able to manage it, and my wedges and putting were good enough to keep me in it, and that’s encouraging.”

Seamus heads to Phoenix this week for the Waste Management Phoenix Open at Scotsdale. A Masters debut is still the main target while his climb to 8th in the FedEx Cup standings puts Seamus on the cusp of a World Gold Championship debut in March.

Gary Hurley makes impressive start to Season

In a week of good news all round for West Waterford, we were delighted to learn that Gary Hurley was playing in the Troon Abu Dhabi Pro-Am last week. Scores of 69, 70, and 71 saw the West Waterford professional finish 3rd in the Pro event. He also won the pro-am team event. Well done Gary, keep up the good work.

Dual Success for the Herlihy Family

On the amateur front we are glad to report that our captain Denis Herlihy and his son Darragh have both qualified for the final of the La Cala series at Faithlegg GC. Darragh (2) carded 42pts, while Denis (17) had a very creditable 38. Best of luck to both in the final.

Covid 19

We would ask all members and visitors to continue to wear a mask and wash and sanitize their hands on entering the clubhouse. The restrictions may have been lifted but the safety of yourselves and others is now your personal responsibility. Thank you for your ongoing cooperation.
