2021 A Memorable Year for Seamus Power
Seamus has received many accolades during the past year and must surely be in the reckoning for the most improved player in 2021.Five top-10’s and four top-20’s along with his breakthrough win has to be acknowledged as an amazing achievement for the West Waterford man. The 34 year old picked up his maiden PGA Tour win at the Barbasol Championship when he overcame JT Potson in a six -hole playoff to become just the sixth Irishman to win on tour. He sealed the victory with a Shot of the Year in his approach to the 18th on Sunday. Needing a birdie, he stitched his approach to three feet over the water with everything on the line. In 2021 Seamus has risen from 434th to 70th in the Official World Golf rankings and made it to the first stage of the FedEx Cup playoffs. The victory at the Barbasol Championship granted Seamus entry to the Players and PGA Championship in 2022. Seamus first event of 2022 will be in the Sentry Tournament of Champions which is the calendar-year opening event of Golf’s PGA Tour season. The tournament was founded in 1953 and the field is restricted to golfers who won a tournament on the tour during the previous calendar year. Remember the date January 6-9th 2022 in Hawaii. In the meantime Seamus will have enjoyed a break with his Dad and the family and will be refreshed as he begins the next chapter in his amazing career to date.
