Comeragh Oil Winter League

Round 2 of the Winter League is well underway with a good turnout over the past week. Ground conditions have improved and with some wind and sunshine forecast for the coming week we would be hoping to bring round 2 to a conclusion by Sunday January 23rd. Once again we would like to thank the large contingent from all the teams who made the effort to play during the week. It is obvious that our Winter League is going to be a battle to the end with team managers ensuring their respective teams make the effort to get the best score for the team. Your Winter League committee will continue to keep you informed on the latest scores each week. The 2022 season is barely underway and we are delighted with the enthusiasm shown by our members. Keep up the good work in supporting your team and your club. Best of luck to all teams in Round 2. It’s your team and your club and we all have a part to play in our success going forward.

Seamus Power crack top-50 with a share of 3rd place at the Sony Open.

Seamus shot an opening round of 63 on Thursday at the Sony Open in Hawaii extending his bogey free run to 72 holes as he carded 7 birdies. Day two saw the West Waterford man recover from an untidy opening four holes to post a second round of two-under 68 to end the day in a share of fifth place. Three birdies in his final four holes kept his hopes of winning a second PGA Tour title alive as he moved within four shots of the leader Russell Henley. Seamus shot a bogey-free round of five-under 65 for a share of third place on fourteen-under-par. Power roared out of the traps with authority on Sunday. Having nailed 35 foot and 27 foot birdie putts on the opening two greens followed by a 17 footer for par on the 3rd it was obvious that Seamus meant business in the closing round. A dropped shot on the 11th was immediately recovered when he holed out for birdie from the fringe on 12. A stunning finish with back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 ensured a move to a career- high 49th in the world. Seamus finished on 19 under par in a share of third place.

He collects a cheque for €442,500 to take his season’s earnings to €1,231,442. As well as moving up to 49th in the world golf rankings he has also moved up to 14th in the FedEx Cup standings guaranteeing him a spot in the top 125 who make August’s FedEx Cup Playoffs. Seamus now jets out to California for this week’s American Express Championship in Palm Springs. Somehow I feel he will have Augusta on his mind.
