Seamus Power moves into World Top 100
West Waterford’s Seamus Powers final round of 4- under 67 for a share of 21st place was enough for him to break into the top-100 for the first time. Seamus was playing in the Shriners Childrens Open in Las Vegas at the weekend. As he played the back nine on Sunday I would imagine his focus was on the highest possible finish in the event. Despite finding the water with his second shot on the par-5 15th, Seamus held his nerve to finish on 14 under par and join the elite of the golfing world.
The result means that Seamus Power becomes the 16th male golfer from the island of Ireland and the 9th from the Republic of Ireland to reach the top-100 in the world rankings since its inception.
New Owners Golf Classic a huge success
The message is clear, the future of golf in West Waterford is secure. Over the past week our golfing friends from far and near came in their numbers to support the New Owners first Classic. They were generous in their support of the event and equally generous in their expression of good will for the future of our club. Many have been supporting our fundraising events over the years and it was reassuring to welcome so many golfers to West Waterford for the first time. A special thank you to all the neighbouring clubs who sent teams and we will of course reciprocate your support in the coming months. To all our members who supported the classic in various ways we are most grateful. Without the voluntary efforts of our members we simply could not survive. Our main sponsor Dungarvan Transport has been a long time supporter of our club and their continued support is greatly appreciated. We had many other generous sponsors for our classic to whom we are equally grateful. Your ongoing support has enabled us to go forward with confidence in maintaining and upgrading our facilities at West Waterford. Time changes everything and we need to move with the changes. We would like to assure you that the West Waterford Welcome will never change. Our sincere thanks to you all as we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
