Captain’s Drive-In
The Sunday morning regulars made an early start to ensure they got back in time for the 2pm drive-in. Sean Byrne was on hand to capture the moment on film and all was in readiness for the official launch of the 2020 season at West Waterford. Lady captain Phil Kelly drilled a three wood down the middle to the applause of the large gallery. Gents captain Diarmuid Horgan followed with an equally good drive which came close to the fairway bunker. Next up was our junior captain Conal O Ceallaigh who launched an excellent drive which landed close to the 200 yard marker. Our president Pat Murphy showed that age is no barrier as he matched the distance and accuracy of the youthful Conal. Formalities completed we returned to the warmth of the clubhouse where Ali and her staff served up generous portions of her tasty finger food. In the free members draw, Colm O Callaghan took first prize with Jerry Martin claiming second. Denis O Donovan and Richard Ronayne were the lucky winners in the lotto draw. We wish our three captains and president the very best of luck in 2020.
Comeragh Oil Winter League – Round 3 underway
The weather may not have been the best during the past week but thanks to the effort made by all teams we still managed to complete round 2 on schedule. Team L have moved into a 6 point lead while remaining in top spot while team D have made a joint leap from the bottom to join the top 8, at the expense of team J. Clear proof as if it were needed that a lot can change during one round. It’s encouraging to see that quite a number of players keep coming back in an effort to improve their scores and keep their respective teams in a qualifying position. As it stands all 12 teams are still in the hunt and it’s just a matter of getting the full team contributing to the team effort. Round 3 gets underway on Monday 13th January and will run until Sunday 19th January. At the end of each week the team scores will be checked and a decision taken as to the extension of any round. Should weather conditions improve dramatically (unlikely), then we will hope to complete rounds over a shorter period. In the meantime remember you can play any day from Monday to the following Sunday with your best score counting. Players not in the league are always welcome to play in the weekly competition.
