Seamus Power playing in The Wyndham Championship 13 – 16th August
Following recent results, Seamus Power has deservedly earned his place in the field for the final event of the year in the Wyndham Championship this weekend. Prior to his recent top 10 finish in the Barracuda Championship Seamus was fourth reserve for the Wyndham Championship but now gets into the field thanks to his top-10 in the Sierra Nevada. He’s also up to 161st in the FedEx Cup standings which means he will still need another big week—a top-four finish may be required— in the Wyndham Championship to escape the conditional card, 126-150 category next year. However, having finished 143rd last year, Power will be happy if he at least improves on that position following the last event in Greeensboro and that means racking up another top-10 finish.
Comeragh Oil League Final – Saturday 15th August
Nine months after it started, the Comeragh Oil sponsored Winter league will come to a conclusion when Kinsalebeg captained by Maurice Hallahan will take on Glenbeg captained by Jimmy Murphy on Saturday 15th August. Two very experienced campaigners, who will spare no effort in having their charges prepared for the decider. Both teams were never too far off the top in the match-play stage of the league and it came as no surprise when Kinsalebeg finished top with 471 pts just ten points ahead of Glenbeg in second. Top scorer for Kinsalebeg was Tom Shanahan 120pts, just one ahead of the Glenbeg sharpshooter Eddie Glavin on 119. Those scored are based on four rounds played over 13 holes under Winter Rules. It will be Summer rules over 18 holes on a testing Eddie Hackett course on Saturday and has all the ingredients for a close and exciting final. Teams will be contacted by their respective captains regarding the exact starting time which will be in the afternoon. The line-up is as follows with Kinsalebeg players first: Brian Foley v Mike Drohan, Ken Fenton v Jim Murphy, Vinny Coonan v Pat Higgins, Ray Rochford v John Byrne, Maurice Hallahan v Conal O Ceallaigh, Eddie Glavin v Tom Shanahan, Dave Walsh v Dermot Murphy, Cormac Cullinan v Pat Murray. Best of luck to both teams.
