The Show Goes On
There may be no golf being played in West Waterford at the moment but essential course maintenance continues and whenever we return to normal service you can be assured that the course will be in perfect condition. Behind the scenes your handicap committee continues the process of implementing the new World Handicapping System. The software update for Handicapmaster arrived last week and Lanson Kelly was on hand to install the downloads and check that everything was working as it should be. Thankfully the new system is very similar to the previous one and players will enter competitions in the same way as before. We don’t know when we will reopen but let’s just say we are ready when you are.
How to access your WHS handicap
To access your handicap information you must create a new account. To create an account you should log o to www.golfireland.ie to register for the first time. You will be asked to enter your 8 digit GUI number and your 4 digit pin both of which are found on the back of your GUI membership card. If you do not have a membership card please contact the office or Pat Power on 0876611276. Once you have registered you will have access to your handicap details and records. We would urge all members to register now in order to familiarise yourselves with the WHS system. When the course reopens we will be available to assist you with any queries you may have. In the meantime you should log on to www.golfnet.ie/whs where you will find lots of useful information regarding the new system.
Winter Rules Golf
When we reopen hopefully in December, winter rules will be in play. This means that competitions will be non qualifying for handicap purposes. Competitions will be played over a shorter course and may be 9, 13, or 16 holes. Placing will be allowed on fairways and in the rough. A domestic handicap system will be in effect for competitions during the winter rules period. This will not affect your official WHS handicap.
Contact West Waterford Golf Club
Due to Covid restrictions the office is closed at the moment. Should you have any enquiries please ring 058 43216 and leave a message. We will call you back to discuss your requirements.
A Year Unlike Any Other
Just in case you forgot, can we remind you that the Masters takes place from November 12th to 15th. It will be interesting to see how the how the elite of the golfing world perform out of season without the thousands of supporters who normally cheer them on. All will be revealed on Sunday 15th November.
Munster Final 2020
All of us in West Waterford would like to wish Liam and the team the very best of luck on Sunday. We can’t be there but we are with you all the way. Up the Deise.
Keeping in Touch
As the weeks roll by and the lockdown seems to be drawing closer to an end, we would ask all our members to keep in touch with each other and maintain the friendly social togetherness we have always engendered at West Waterford. A call or a text to one of your buddies would be greatly appreciated. Look after yourselves and each other and hopefully it won’t be too long before we are back walking and swinging in the autumnal beauty of our beloved club.
