President’s Prize Mr Pat Murphy – Sat 10th and Sunday 11th October
Just two weeks on from our Captain’s prize it is now the turn of our esteemed president Mr Pat Murphy to take centre stage in hosting his president’s prize for 2020. A few months later than normal but rest assured that Pat will have everything in order to guarantee a weekend to remember. He has been preparing the course over the past six months and if you have any doubts just take a look at the first tee and the fairways and you will not find a blade of grass out of place. We are all aware of the enormous amount of time and effort Pat puts into the course, and we now have the opportunity to show our appreciation of his efforts by playing in the president’s prize at the weekend.
The format will be one round of 18 hole stableford and members can play on Saturday or Sunday subject to pre booking and draw for playing partners. Entry sheets are posted on the men’s notice board and you can also book your slot by ringing 058 43216 during office hours. Draw for playing partners will be held on Wednesday evening Oct 7th, and list will be published on website on Thursday 8th October. Presentation of prizes on Sunday evening in line with Covid-19 restrictions.

Successful Open Champagne Scramble
We were delighted with the response to this novel event held over six days last week. Weather conditions were favourable and drew a large entry of members and visitors from far and near. The 3 person event proved popular with the ladies and gents. We congratulate all the winners and say thank you to everyone who supported the event. A special word of thanks to our main sponsor Murray’s Pharmacy.

World Handicapping System
Golf Ireland, the GUI and ILGU have confirmed that the World Handicap System will come into effect in Ireland from 2nd November, replacing the current Unified Handicapping System (CONGU).
The new World Handicap System will be averaged using the best 8 of the last 20 scores on your record. Further information will become available during the coming weeks and members should log on to Golfnet to access this information.

We would like thank all our members and visitors for their continued cooperation in complying with Covid-19 protocol. Members are reminded that all tee times must be booked in advanced and that under no circumstances should any member go out on the course without booking and/or notifying the office. Failure to comply may lead to suspension from the club. You must comply with social distancing regulations at all times. Wearing a cloth face covering in public may reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the community. It may help to reduce the spread of respiratory droplets from people infected with COVID-19. Cloth face coverings may help to stop people who are not aware they have the virus from spreading it. By law, face coverings must be worn in all shops, including retail shops in golf clubs.
Full details of the measures are available at

Greenfees Welcome at West Waterford
We are now open for greenfees 7 days per week. Enjoy 9 or 18 holes in the tranquil surroundings of the Brickey Valley. We can guarantee that once you pay a visit to West Waterford you will be made welcome and will want to return. Book online or ring 058 43216 to reserve your tee time.

Temporary Local Rule
Owing to the variable weather conditions we are currently permitting Placing on Fairways only until further notice. A lot of time and effort goes into keeping fairways cut and placing is in to keep them in the best condition. You can help by replacing divots. Keep an eye on the notice board as local rules will change depending on weather conditions.

Relief for Embedded Ball
“A ball embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground through the green may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole.”

Reciprocal Arrangements with Dungarvan and Gold Coast Golf Clubs
Members are reminded of the ongoing arrangement whereby from Monday to Friday, members of West Waterford can play Gold Coast or Dungarvan for a reduced fee of €15. This does not apply for competitions or at weekends.

We offer our condolences to Don Downey on the recent passing of his mother.
May she rest in peace.
