Presentation of Winter League Prizes
It may have taken nine months to complete but our 2020 Winter League came to a conclusion on Sunday evening with the presentation of prizes. In line with Covid-19 restrictions the presentation took place outdoors. We would like to thank Paddy Joe Ryan for taking time out of his busy schedule to attend and make the presentation. Comeragh Oil have sponsored the league for many years and we are most grateful for their continued support. Jimmy Murphy accepted the trophy on behalf of his Glenbeg team while Maurice Hallahan was on hand to accept the runner-up prize on behalf of Kinsalebeg team. Thank you to everyone who supported the League and we look forward to your participation in 2021.

Captain’s Prize 2020
With just two weeks to go the timesheet for Mr Diarmuid Horgan’s captain’s prize is filling up rapidly. Members are advised to book early to secure their preferred teetime. The major event of the year takes place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September. The format will be 18 hole strokeplay off the white markers. There will be no qualifier this year, just give it your best over 18 holes and you could be the lucky recipient of this prestigious prize. New members i.e.(Beginners with a handicap of 18 or above, who never held a handicap in any club) have the option of playing in a 9-hole competition on Saturday evening 26th Sept. Timesheets and full entry rules are posted on the noticeboard.
Lady Captain’s Weekend
We would like to wish our hard working lady captain Phil Kelly the very best of luck as she hosts her captain’s prize at the weekend. Phil has put a tremendous amount of work into the club throughout the year, so let’s hope she gets the weather and the turnout she deserves.

Temporary Local Rule
Owing to the variable weather conditions we are currently permitting Placing on Fairways only until further notice. A lot of time and effort goes into keeping fairways cut and placing is in to keep them in the best condition. You can help by replacing divots. Keep an eye on the notice board as local rules will change depending on weather conditions.

Relief for Embedded Ball
“A ball embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground through the green may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole.”

Reciprocal Arrangements with Dungarvan and Gold Coast Golf Clubs
Members are reminded of the ongoing arrangement whereby from Monday to Friday, members of West Waterford can play Gold Coast or Dungarvan for a reduced fee of €15. This does not apply for competitions or at weekends.

Update for Golf Clubs in Republic of Ireland – Covid -19
The GUI/ILGU have issued an update for golf clubs in the Republic of Ireland.
Following the Irish Government’s announcement on Tuesday 18th August in relation to new public health measures, golf clubs are reminded that these come into place immediately. All existing public health, social distancing and hygiene measures for golf also remain in place and must continue to be fully adhered to. Full details of the measures are available at www.gov.ie
Wearing a cloth face covering in public may reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the community. It may help to reduce the spread of respiratory droplets from people infected with COVID-19. Cloth face coverings may help to stop people who are not aware they have the virus from spreading it. By law, face coverings must be worn in all shops, including retail shops in golf clubs.
