Seamus Power makes impressive return to PGA Tour
Following a two month break West Waterford’s Seamus Power made a welcome return to action at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last weekend. He followed an opening round of level par with a 4 under performance on day 2 which put him in a strong position to make the three- round cut on Saturday. He was a shot outside the three-under par cut mark after going to the turn on two over par, but he made an eagle three on the 10th. A birdie on the 16th and two closing pars saw him finish the day tied 44th on four-under par and one shot inside the cut mark. Seamus finished his final round on two-over for a four round total of two-under par and a share of 38th place. “I’ve been doing some good practice with Justin Parsons and I’m looking forward now to testing it in competition and seeing how it goes,” he said. He has been working to fix a little physical limitation on the left side of his neck and needs a bit more time to get it exactly right. “You never get a true feel for it until you test it in tournament mode so I am looking forward to seeing how it goes this week. You have to be patient and wait for your chances. It’s probably going to be slim pickings for me in the early part of the year, but I will get a lot of opportunities, especially in the summer, so the main thing is to be ready to take advantage of them.” The next event for Seamus is the Puerto Rico Open on February 20-23rd.

Care of the Greens
Unfortunately a number of people are not repairing pitch marks on the greens. A lot of time and effort has gone into getting our greens to the high standard our members and visitors have come to expect at West Waterford. So please repair your pitch marks and even if you can’t find your own you can always fix someone elses. Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated.

Comeragh Oil Winter League – Rond 3 Completed.
Round 4 is underway and was going well until Ciara announced her visit and arrived on schedule early on Sunday morning. Some of her relations are due to arrive early this week and hopefully we can continue with our very successful Winter League in the second half of the week. The good news is that 3 rounds have been completed and all teams are still in contention for the qualifying stages. Following Round 3,. teams L and C traded places at the top of the table with just a single point separating them. Teams K and E held their positions in 3rd and 4th spot. Team I were the big movers in round 3 moving into 8th place at the expense of team G. After three qualifying rounds the cut comes in at 324 with the bottom four teams still in with a shout. Round 4 starts on Monday 3rd February and will run for at least two weeks. The top 8 teams will qualify for the matchplay stage and the battle for places will be hotting up in the remaining qualifying rounds. It has been decided to stick with the 13 hole format to give players the opportunity to play in the afternoon. The weekly competition is open to non league members. We are delighted with the support for our league to date and hope you will keep up the effort.

World Handicap System
The new World Handicap System will be implemented on November 2nd 2020. Local seminars are being arranged to inform handicap committees on the structure of the new system. Members will be kept informed as we receive ongoing updates.
