Comeragh Oil Winter League 2020

Over 90 players have participated in round one which drew to a conclusion on Sunday 8th December. With eight teams to qualify for the match-play stages and only 9 points separating the bottom four teams, the scene is set for a battle royale in the quest for qualifying places. Despite the mixed weather conditions players have turned up in number right through the week with the 13 hole format being very well received. The league will take a short break over the Christmas period and will resume with round 2 on Friday 27th December. This round will also be played over 13 holes. Whereas the alphabetical listing of teams has simplified the task for players wishing to know their teams we will be adding area names shortly. If you would like to act as team captain and choose your own team name, please contact Pat Power or Jimmy Murphy. There has been great competition for the weekly prizes and the category system has led to an even distribution of prizes. Of course the domestic handicap system also helps towards an even spread of prizewinners. Players are reminded that the domestic handicap system applies only to the weekly compettion. So thank you to everyone who has supported our winter league. A special word of thanks to Malcolm who keeps the entry fees in order and also to Pat and Tony for their help in sorting the cards each week. Enjoy the break but keep the eye in with round 2 just around the corner.

Dungarvan Lions Club Hamper Appeal Extended

All funds raised will be donated to the appeal. As in former years, West Waterford is delighted to support the appeal and our Fundraiser has been extended for an extra week due to the prevailing weather conditions. So if you fancy 9 holes and would like to support a worthy cause then get out any day up to and including Friday 13th December. Thank you to everyone who has played so far and also to those who have made donations. All proceeds will go towards providing hampers for the needy in the Dungarvan and West Waterford area.

Past Captains and Presidents Dinner

We have had a great response to our annual gathering which take place on Friday next 13t December. 13 Hole stableford competition from 1.30 followed by Christmas dinner at 5pm. Last year’s winner Dermot Drohan has been shining up the magnificent Waterford Crystal trophy and rumour has it he has an eye on the two in a row. I have seen quite a few of the other contenders getting some practice in over the past few weeks so watch out Dermot you may have a big task on your hands. We look forward to a great day out on Friday and if you haven’t signed up yet you can do so by contacting our club secretary Maurice Hallahan. See you all on Friday.

Winter Rules

Please note that all competitions are now being played under Winter Rules

Lift clean and place on fairway and rough within 6 inches. The good news is that all our bunkers are in play unless otherwise stated in local rules. Please keep an eye on the notice board for additional local rules and the number of holes being played in different competitions

Gift Vouchers Available

Gift vouchers can be purchased at the shop in West Waterford. Why not treat a friend to a game of golf or a voucher to be used against members annual subscription. Call and talk to Gillian who will be glad to help with your requirements.

We would like to join the ladies club in expressing our condolences to the extended Barron family on the untimely passing of our former lady captain Mary Barron. Condolences also to Eithne Ashby on the passing of her sister in Australia.

May Mary and Vera rest in peace.
