Gents Notes w/e 5th April

Late Jimmy Harty A Master of his Trade

With great sadness we recently learnt of the passing of Jimmy Harty who had a long association with West Waterford golf club. Back in the early nineties Jimmy was engaged as the main contractor in the construction of West Waterford golf course. Well known for his expertise in land drainage he had no problem turning his hand to this new and exciting challenge. To quote the man himself “I could get water to run up a hill with this Hy-Mac.” Jimmy met up with another master Eddie Hackett and together they planned and produced a golf course which was to become known world wide through the exploits of Seamus Power and Gary Hurley. In just over two years they had completed the project to the highest of standards. We in West Waterford GC are forever indebted to Jimmy for his immense contribution to the realization of Pat Spratt’s dream. We wish to express our sincere condolences to Jimmy’s brothers Patrick and John, sister Mary Murray, and the extended Harty family. Ar dheis De go raibh se. Ni bheidh a leitheid aris ann.

But the Master comes,
And the foolish crowd

Never can quite understand,
The worth of a soul

And the change that is wrought
By the Touch of the Masters’ Hand.

Upcoming Events

Despite Covid-19 the clocks have moved on to Summer-time, and as soon as normal service resumes we will have a new schedule in place with something for everyone. The Tuesday Treats is always popular with members and visitors alike, and plans are well advanced for an Open 9 hole Qualifier each Wednesday. We will ease you gently back into 18 hole competition

Despite the current doom and gloom we should take heart from the fact that the daffodils are springing up all round and we already have a big stretch in the evenings. The weather is starting to improve and the evenings are getting longer. So take heart and cheer up in the news that better times are fast approaching.
