Captain’s Prize 2020 – Andy Hickey claims the trophy on the back 9
When Martin O Driscoll recorded a magnificent 68 on Saturday he must have felt he had one hand on the magnificent Waterford Crystal captain’s prize. In very similar playing conditions on Sunday, the 2019 president’s prize winner Andy Hickey turned in a spectacular performance on the back 9 and duly claimed the coveted trophy. From start to finish this major event was played in brilliant sunshine. Following a short delay due to grass frost on both mornings play got underway with temperatures gradually increasing throughout the morning. Over the two days 150 members, appropriately wearing their face masks, got signed in for Diarmuid Horgan’s big weekend. The course was in immaculate condition and weather conditions were ideal. As evidenced from the results, the competition was keen with many places decided on countbacks. In line with Covd-19 regulations the presentation took place on Sunday evening. President Pat Murphy introduced our captain Diarmuid who gave a brief speech acknowledging the efforts of all who contributed to the success of the weekend. Winner Andy Hickey expressed his delight in winning the prestigious prize and thanked the captain for his contribution to West Waterford golf club down the years. A word of thanks to local photographer Sean Byrne who made a special effort to get the photographs taken outdoors. In conclusion we express our thanks to our captain Diarmuid Horgan who made it a September to Remember in 2020. All is well at West Waterford golf club.

Temporary Local Rule
Owing to the variable weather conditions we are currently permitting Placing on Fairways only until further notice. A lot of time and effort goes into keeping fairways cut and placing is in to keep them in the best condition. You can help by replacing divots. Keep an eye on the notice board as local rules will change depending on weather conditions.
Relief for Embedded Ball
“A ball embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground through the green may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole.”
