Comeragh Oil Winter League Quarter Finals – Wash Your Hands
With improved weather conditions the match-play stage of our Winter league made good progress during the week and the quarter finals came very close to completion. Team L captained by Jimmy Murphy were first to book their place in the semi finals with a decisive win over Pat Power’s Team E. Man of the match has to go to Tom Shanahan who holed out from 70 yards on the par 4 17th to clinch his match against Dave O Keeffe and thereby book his team into the semis. The remaining quarter finals although well advanced, have a few matches outstanding. Brian Foley vs Clive Cooney, Ray Rochford vs Brian Hilliard, Maurice Hallahan vs Tony Ruane. Denis Conway vs Michael O Keeffe, Kevin Kelly vs Eddie Stack. Pat Murphy vs Liam Hansbury, Ian O Sullivan vs Terry O Callaghan. The deadline has been extended to Sunday 29th March but we would hope to have the ties completed before then. You can find the quarter final pairings on our club website and at the end of this week’s club notes.
Winter League Semi Final Draw
Team L will play the winner of B vs I. Winner of C vs G will play winner of D vs H.
The open draw was made on Sunday evening to enable pairings to begin their semi final matches soon as relevant quarter finals are completed. Teams should contact Jimmy Murphy or Pat Power before any semi final begins. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Golf Clubs and Covid 19 – Wash Your Hands
All clubs have now received notification regarding the Coronavirus outbreak and guidelines to be followed in line with the HSE recomendations. It’s in everybody’s interest to comply with those guidelines both on and off the course. By now most of us are familiar with the do’s and dont’s. As an extra safety measure we suggest that the flagstick not be removed during a round. Rakes have been removed from all bunkers. Player is requested to play as it lies if possible. Alternatively a player can lift the ball, smooth the sand with their foot and place the ball within the bunker. Members might bring their own pen or pencil to use for signing in and whenever possible bring the exact amount in change for your entry fee. Please use the sanitizers provided in the locker rooms and at the sign-in desk, and wash your hands before and after play. You have plenty of room on the course to keep your distance and a nod or a thank you should replace the handshake on completion of your round. The more we do to protect ourselves and each other the sooner we can return to our normal routine. Bear in mind that it’s not all about you.
All things being equal we would hope to start our midweek competitions in early April. The Tuesday Treats is always popular with members and visitors alike, and plans are well advanced for an Open 9 hole Qualifier each Wednesday. We also hope to return to the 18- hole weekend club competitions shortly. Watch this space for starting dates.
Care of the Greens
Unfortunately a number of people are not repairing pitch marks on the greens. A lot of time and effort has gone into getting our greens to the high standard our members and visitors have come to expect at West Waterford. So please repair your pitch marks and even if you can’t find your own please fix another one. Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated.
Summertime is Coming. – Wash Your Hands
Despite the current doom and gloom we should take heart from the fact that the daffodils are springing up all round and we already have a big stretch in the evenings. The weather is starting to improve and summertime begins on March 29th. So take heart and cheer up in the news that better times are fast approaching.
Something for Everyone at West Waterford Golf Club
Did you know that all 18 holes at West Waterford are open for play. However whether you choose to play 5, 9, 13, 16 or 18 holes you are within a very short walk of the clubhouse where you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. Societies and Green Fees are always welcome and we offer competitive prices and a warm welcome.
