Seasons Greetings

We wish to extend Seasons greetings to our sponsors, local and national media (print and radio), all visiting golfers and societies and to you our loyal members.

May you all have a peaceful Christmas and New Year as we look forward to meeting you all in 2020.

Busy week at West Waterford

Who cares about the weather anyway?. We had a bit of everything during the past week but it had little or no effect on our program of events. Our favorite son Seamus Power was home on his annual Christmas break and as always spent a good bit of time at the club meeting members and societies for a casual chat. As he said himself ‘It all began here and I love coming back to meet members and friends’. Everyone looks forward to his visits and a chat about his progress on the USPGA tour. Seamus does not have a full card this year but is confident he can make progress in the limited number of events he has and perhaps qualify for extra tournaments. ‘You have to be patient and make the most of what you have at any given time’ He is reassured by the fact that his loyal supporters will follow him through the highs and the lows as he progresses on to the highest level in the game. Remember he has already been there and the ambition is to get back to the top. We wish Seamus the very best of luck in 2020.

On Thursday we welcomed the Local golf society for their Christmas outing and as usual a great day was had by all. Niall would like to thank all at West Waterford GC, No 19 restaurant, Deise Golf and the Local Bar for their support.

On Saturday it was the turn of Killeagh GAA for their 27th consecutive Christmas outing at West Waterford. Ray and his group have been loyal supporters since the foundation of the club and we look forward to welcoming them for many years to come. On behalf of the club I would like to thank both societies, and all the societies who visited us during the year for their continued support. We wish to extend Seasons greetings to one and all.

Past Captains and Presidents Reunion.

Our annual reunion was held on Friday last and once again we got lucky with the weather. The competition was played over 9 holes and attracted a large entry. Last year’s winner Dermot Drohan came very close to retaining the trophy but 2003 president, Terry O Callaghan rolled back the years to win on the back 3. A most popular winner and we say well done Terry. Following the golf we joined our non playing comrades for dinner in the clubhouse. Tales of past encounters were exchanged as we tucked into the delicious Christmas dinner and desert prepared by Liam and Ali. Another wonderful gathering and we look forward to doing it all again in 2020.

Comeragh Oil Winter League 2020

With round one completed on schedule we are taking a break from the league over the Christmas period. Round 2 will commence on Friday 27th December and will be played over 13 holes in conjunction with the weekend competition. Round 2 will continue on Mon 30th December 2019 to Sunday 5th January 2020.

Dungarvan Lions Club Hamper Appeal

A big thank you to everyone who supported the appeal over the past two weeks. Some people played while others made donations. Due to your combined generosity we will be handing over a sizeable cheque to the Lions Club to help with the provision of Christmas hampers for the needy in our locality.

Park Hotel Supreme Sports Star Award on Sunday 29th December 2019

Seamus Power was co-winner of the April monthly award this year. The overall winner will be announced at the Gala Banquet on Sunday night 29th December. Special guest is ‘local’ Jockey Davy Russell. Anyone wishing to attend should contact the office on 058 43216. Dress is black tie formal.

Christmas Gift Vouchers Available

Gift vouchers can be purchased at the shop in West Waterford. Why not treat a friend to a game of golf or a voucher to be used against members annual subscription. Call and talk to Gillian who will be glad to help with your requirements.
