Gary Hurley finishes tied 14th at Mauritius Open

Gary continues to make steady progress on the DP World Tour with a career best tie for 14th in the Afrasia Bank  Mauritius Open at the weekend.  The Aglish man must be very pleased when he recovered from a two-over outward nine and birdied four of his last seven holes for a closing 70 on Sunday to put him in a tie for 14th on seven-under in the event and a cheque for €14,700.  He now heads into a well deserved winter break ranked 44th in the DP World Tour rankings having made his first three cuts since winning his card at Qualifying School in November.

“It’s been an amazing year for me” says Gary. “I started on the Alps Tour this year.  I had no status on the Challenge Tour.  I had a few invites and did quite well in a few of them and then went to Q-School and got my card. It was a fairytale year from the outside looking in really.”

Gary is looking forward to returning  home this week to spend some time with family and friends.  He intends to use the break to recharge and be ready to resume when the 2023 season restarts in the Middle East in January.

“It’s great to be linking up with Gary for the next two years and it’s hopefully something we can continue into the future as well,” said Experience Ireland’s CEO, Tom Kennedy.

“We have been looking to support one of the Irish pros on tour, and we are proud that Gary will wear our logo for the coming two years.

“We’re sure he will have some great results in 2023 and 2024, following on from his excellent end to the year in 2022.”

Comeragh Oil Winter League

Due to the cold snap we had a very quiet week for the start of Round 2.  Very few Leopards and Lions to be seen on the fairways in West Waterford. Thankfully temperatures are on the increase this week and we would hope to be back in action sometime during the week.   We will have to adjust our timetable slightly but all participants can be assured that we will allocate sufficient time for all teams to get their four scores in for round two.  Round two is now underway and at the moment, is envisaged to continue until Christmas Eve at the earliest.  If necessary Round 2 will be extended for a further week or longer as required.

Following the first two rounds of singles stableford  there will be a matchplay round over the holiday period. Team members must have played at least once and paid the initial entry fee to be eligible for the matchplay round.  All teams will participate in the matchplay, and bonus points will be awarded to all who participate. On completion of the matchplay round we will revert back to the singles competition.

Full details of teams plus Rules and Format are available on the clubhouse notice board and have also been circulated to all on the WhattsApp list. Thank you to all who have played so far and again we ask all team members to make the effort to get at least one score in for their respective teams in round two. Members can play any day during the week and re-entry is permitted.  Remember to book you teetime in advance on the BRS booking system.
