A Night to remember at West Waterford Golf Club

On Saturday night last the members of West Waterford together with numerous guests gathered at West Waterford for a celebration evening to honour the achievements of Gary Hurley.  MC for the event Kieran O Connor introduced the many guests including John Moloughney, John Fenessey, John Carroll and Tommy Donnelly all from Golf Ireland.  John Moloughney spoke in glowing terms of Gary’s outstanding achievements including his pivotal role as an amateur in the clubs success winning three Irish Junior Foursomes in the space of four years, and of course the proudest moment of all when he represented GB&I in that famous Walker Cup victory in 2015.  John Carroll spoke of his association with Gary playing for Ireland in the Home Internationals and European Championships, not forgetting his magnificent performance in the Irish Open at Fota Island.

When Gary turned professional he had some early success, but his proudest moment came with his maiden victory on the Alps Tour.  This success paved the way to securing his tour card for the Challenge in 2023.

Gary spoke candidly about the trials and tribulations of a tour pro and the difficult years before the tide turned in his favour and is now confident of continued success at the highest level. He expressed his gratitude to West Waterford GC and his local community for the support they have given him throughout his golfing career.  The captain and lady captain of West Waterford presented a suitably inscribed crystal vase to Gary on this momentous occasion and this was greeted with a standing ovation from the assembled crowd.

Following a few weeks off to take the opportunity to celebrate his successes, Gary’s next objective is the DP World Tour Q School where he will tee it up at the second stage qualifying in Girona, Spain on November 3rd.  As always he carries our best wishes as he sets out to attain a full card for the DP World Tour.
