Gary Hurley makes the Perfect Start at Q School Final in Spain
A superb second round from Gary Hurley on Saturday saw him move into fifth position at the final of the DP World Tour Q School in Spain. Having opened with a two-under par 70 on Friday Gary carded 7 birdies in round two on Saturday, including four in his first four holes and followed this with birdies on the ninth, thirteenth, and sixteenth for a six-under par round to catapult himself into fifth place overall. A two-under 70 on Sunday was enough to keep the West Waterford man in contention at the halfway stage. Three more gruelling rounds await the contenders before they complete the 108 hole challenge. Following Monday’s round, the top 70 go on to the last 36 holes. The leading 25 players and ties at the conclusion of play will be granted conditional membership on the DP World Tour and fully exempt status on the Challenge Tour for the 2023 season. Players who make the 72 hole cut and finish outside the Top 25 will earn lower membership categories on the DP World and Challenge Tours.
Seamus Power living and loving life on the PGA Tour
Seamus returns to action this week playing in the RSM Classic at Sea Island. This will be his final event for the current season. What a year it’s been for the West Waterford man the highlight being his second PGA Tour victory at the Butterfield championship in Bermuda. “The first one was amazing but to be able to win again, it’s fantastic,” Power said of a second PGA TOUR win that came courtesy of a tournament record 28 birdies. It was also a special year for Seamus competing and performing admirably in all the majors. With a full tour card for the coming season, he must be looking forward to the possibility of a major victory in 2023. Seamus was interviewed on RTE Saturday Sport at the weekend and expressed his delight in his current position in the world and FedEx cup rankings. When asked about the lure of LIV he made it clear that his future plans are to remain on the PGA tour. Regarding approaches from LIV Seamus replied, “I haven’t had much interaction,” “I know my manager had some contact with them earlier in the year, but it’s not for me.”
“My first year playing the majors, they’re memories that I can’t even put into words how special they were to me”
“I’m very lucky. I’ve really enjoyed my time on the PGA Tour. There are things I want to do in golf that I don’t know if you’re going to be able to do, the big one being the Ryder Cup “I don’t know if I’ll ever make a Ryder Cup – I obviously hope to and plan on it – it’s a huge goal. But to even take away the possibility of playing in the Ryder Cup would be a lot for me to swallow.”

Men’s Club AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Men’s club will be held in the clubhouse on Monday November 21st starting at 8pm.
The Winter League committee have been extra busy over the last number of weeks preparing the paperwork for our upcoming league. Thanks to an enthusiastic response from our members, we will have twelve teams playing in the league. We have also listened to the suggestions from the members. As a result, the 2022/23 league will have a new format. Following the first three rounds of singles stableford we have introduced a match play round over the holiday period. All teams will participate in the match play and bonus points will be awarded to all who participate. On completion of the match play round we will have one more round of singles stableford before the top four teams overall progress to the semi-finals and final.
Full details of teams plus Rules and Format are available on the clubhouse notice board and are also being circulated to all on the WhatsApp list. Weather permitting, round one will commence on Monday November 14th. Members can play any day during the week and re-entry is permitted.
Please keep an eye on the online timesheet and BRS updates as play may be interrupted at times due to the prevailing weather conditions.
Winter Handicaps 90%
For the duration of Winter Rules November to March the handicap committee has introduced a 90% handicap limit. To facilitate this you will need to check your playing handicap based on the 90% Playing Handicap Table posted at the sign-in desk. You simply check your handicap index from the list provided at sign-in and then check your handicap from the 90% Playing handicap List.
Due to the prevailing weather conditions, it has been necessary to introduce winter rules golf. Placing is allowed on fairways and in the rough. You must mark the position of your ball and lift, clean, and place within 6 inches of your marker. For the foreseeable future club competitions, including the Winter league will be played over 13 holes. All competitions are now non-qualifying for handicap purposes.
