150th Open at St Andrews July 14 – 17th

When asked about the highlight of his career recently, Seamus Power replied:

“Everyone at the moment is asking me about Augusta, but the 150th anniversary Open at St Andrews would be incredible. I played the St Andrews Links Trophy there as an amateur. It’s so special to play there, so to play the Open there would be incredible. That’s more on my radar than any of the rest and it would be an unbelievable month of golf with the Irish Open (at Mount Juliet) and then two weeks later St Andrews. So, that’s my goal for the month of July anyway.”

Seamus has spent the last two weeks back in Ireland where he played in the Irish Open at Mount Juliet and the JP McManus pro –am at Adare Manor.  He was back in West Waterford on Tuesday July 4th for a promotional Ping sponsored video of a round of golf  and interview  with Radar, aka Wayne Reilly from Sky Sports. Pat Murphy recalled the early days in Seamus’s career at West Waterford and I am sure this must have rekindled Seamus boyhood dreams of playing in The Open at St Andrews.  Seamus will arrive at St Andrews on Monday in preparation for the Open.  I wonder if he will stand on the first tee and pinch himself on the realization of a childhood dream come true. Currently 36th in the World Golf Rankings, Seamus is there on merit and must be considered a serious contender for a top 20 finish.

Sliabh gCua/ St Mary’s GAA Club – A Round with Seamus Competition

Congratulations to John O Shea, Grainne Fitzgerald, and Niall Dempsey who were the three lucky winners in our fund raising raffle for A Round with Seamus.  The PGA Barbasol champion joined  us at West Waterford on Friday to meet the winners for a round of golf followed by a meal in the Garden Cafe at West Waterford.  John kindly offered his position on the course to his uncle Robbie Barry and Grainne offered her position to Shane Hanrahan.  Thanks to Seamus for his time, a true gent and brilliant ambassador for county Waterford and our local Touraneena parish.  A special word of thanks to our committee members Tom Paul and Kay.  Our sincere thanks to Gillian at West Waterford GC for helping us run the event so smoothly.  We would like to join with the members of West Waterford in wishing Seamus the very best of luck in his dream debut at the 150th  Open at St Andrews July 14-17th.
