Seamus Power tops FedEx Cup and moves inside world’s Top 30

Seamus finished tied 3rd behind Russell Henley in the World Technology Championship at Mayakoba at the weekend to jump to 29th in the World golf rankings.

Having been 7 off the leader going into Sunday’s final round he  moved to within four shots after two early birdies in his final round.  However Henley had a hat trick of birdies from the sixth to close with a 70 leaving Seamus five behind on 18-under par.  Just one week after winning his second PGA event the West Waterford man had the consolation of a cheque for $375,560 and a place inside the top 30 in the world.  He also moves to fourth in the European World Points list and an automatic spot on the team alongside John Rahm, Shane Lowry, Rory McIlroy, Robert McIntyre and Thomas Detry.

Seamus had his best round on Saturday with an ace, an eagle two, and holed a bunker shot for an amazing round of 63. “I holed a few shots but couldn’t get much going on the greens.  My speed was just a little off”.  “ Like early in the week before the rain they were a little quicker and I couldn’t quite get adjusted to that slightly slower speed.  But it was good to hang in there.  Hit a lot of good shots today, I was able to get a high finish out of it”

Seamus will skip this week’s Cadence Bank Houston Open before wrapping up 2022 at the RSM Classic in Sea Island. “Yeah, I’m going to have a week off , come back to Las Vegas tomorrow, get some rest and catch up on things, and get ready for one more before the end of the season”

DP World Tour Final Stage

Playing in the second stage of Q-School in Gerona, Spain during the week Gary Hurley finished in 16th place on 7-under par to book his place in the final stage at Infinitum, Tarragona Spain on Nov 11-16th.  The event will be played over 6 rounds with the cut coming after 4 rounds and the top 50 progressing to the final two rounds.  The top 25 and ties will receive their cards for the European Tour for 2023.  Gary’s recent form indicates that he is well capable of competing at this level and we wish him the very best of luck at the weekend.

Winter Handicaps 90%

For the duration of Winter Rules November to March the handicap committee has introduced a 90% handicap limit.  To facilitate this you will need to check your playing handicap based on the 90% Playing Handicap Table posted at the sign-in desk.  You simply check your handicap index from the list provided at sign-in and then check your handicap from the 90% Playing handicap List.

Winter Rules

Due to the prevailing weather conditions it has been necessary to introduce winter rules golf.  Placing is allowed on fairways and in the rough.  You must mark the position of your ball and lift, clean, and place within 6 inches of your marker.  For the foreseeable future club competitions, including the Winter league will be played over 13 holes.  All competitions are now non-qualifying for handicap purposes.
