Autumn Classic Oct 1 to Oct 8 sponsored by Dungarvan Transport
Our Autumn Classic got underway on Saturday with a large number of teams taking advantage of the excellent weather conditions. The 3 person team format with two scores counting on each hole and each player playing their own ball has been well received. We have an excellent array of prizes including laser range finders, golf cart bags, golf shoes and various golfing equipment. The classic continues up to Saturday next Oct 8th and teams can book online or by contacting the office on 05843216. All proceeds from the classic will go towards the purchase of greenkeeping equipment. We look forward to seeing you during the week when you will be guaranteed the usual West Waterford Welcome.
In conjunction with the classic we are running a raffle with tickets at €10 each available from the office and the classic entry desk upstairs. First prize is a one year membership to West Waterford golf club. You could also win a valuable hamper and some golfing equipment.
Sanding of all fairways has now been completed and verti draining will commence following our Autumn Classic. All fairways have been brushed and placing has been introduced until further notice. We apologise for the temporary inconvenience but can assure you that the improvements are permanent and will enhance your golfing experience at West Waterford GC during the coming months.
Important weekend for Gary Hurley.
Following an excellent 3rd place finish on the Alps Tour Castlecontubria Alps Open last weekend Gary Hurley has booked himself a place among the top 50 players who compete in the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand final at the Moderna Golf & CC Moderna Italy on Oct 6-8th. Currently at number 4 on the order of merit Gary has an excellent opportunity to gain automatic promotion to the Challenge Tour and possibly a chance to join the European Tour. We all wish Gary the very best of luck at the weekend and hope that he gets his just reward for all the work he has put into his game in 2022. You can follow Gary’s progress on the Alps Tour website or you can download the app.
Seamus Power was playing in his first event of the 2022-23 season at the Sanderson Farms Championship at the weekend. The West Waterford man opened with a brace of 71’s to make the cut on 2 under par at the Country Club of Jackson. On moving day Saturday he caught fire reeling off eight birdies, including four in his last five holes for a 67 which moved him to 25th on seven-under-par. A one-under 71on Sunday saw him finish on 8- under for a share of 30th place. His next event is the Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas NV Oct 6-9th.
We travelled to Dungarvan on Saturday for the second round of the competition vs the home club. From experience we have learned that playing Dungarvan on their home patch is a formidable task. Our team battled bravely only to come out on the receiving end of a 4-1 result. As the saying goes it’s only half time and we look forward to the second leg in West Waterford in two weeks time. We would like to thank Dungarvan for their hospitality and look forward to returning the hospitality and possibly providing a serious test on our home patch.
