Killeagh GAA Classic attracts record entry

The 23rd annual Killeagh Classic was held at West Watererford on Thursday Friday and Saturday of last week.  A record 147 teams (441 golfers) played the champagne scramble over the magnificent 18 hole course.  All present including the first timers were loud in their praise of the facilities, in particular the splendid condition of the newly refurbished bunkers.  Once again we say well done to Ray Rochford and his team on a meticulousy managed event with everything operating like clockwork.  As usual there were prizes for 35 teams. In first place was Abbeylands with 106points, Murray’s pharmacy came second

Irish Open at Lahinch

A large contingent from the club made the trip to Lahinch over the four days last weekend.  This was an opportunity to support our hero Seamus and see at first hand his performance in a major event on home soil.  Of course we would have liked a different result but a true supporter accepts the highs and lows in any sport and looks  forward to better days ahead.  Seamus was proud to be there and we were equally proud to cheer him on.  We all relished the occasion and the tired limbs and aching feet will heal in time.  It’s

Seamus Power looking forward to Irish Open at Lahinch

West Waterford’s  PGA player Seamus Power is relishing the opportunity to play in this year’s Irish Open.  Looking back on a distinguished career Seamus recalls 18 years ago when he joined his West Waterford pals as a marshall in the Irish Open at Fota Island.  He also recalls playing as an amateur at Carton House in 2005 and again in 2013 when he was playing in the mini tours in the U.S.  Seamus has come a long way since those days and is delighted to to be playing in front of his loyal home fans at Lahinch this week.  Now

Denis Herlihy emerged as clubhouse leader with a great score of 39 pts, closely followed by Dave Walsh with 37. Weather conditions on Saturday provided a stern test with wind and rain in the early morning. Despite this all entrants turned out and Des Cleary and Martin O Driscoll returned 39 pts each. Clive Cooney, Jack O Donnell and Brian Foley were on their heels with

Seamus Power

Seamus took a short break last week to attend his brother’s wedding. As always our PGA professional took the time to visit the club and meet up with the members. He was also present at the Park hotel to accept the April monthly sports star award. Seamus is now back in the US in preparation for his next tournament on the PGA tour. This will be the Charles Schwab Challenge at Forth Worth Texas, which carries a prize fund of $7,300,000. Best of luck Seamus from all at West Waterford. Looking forward to meeting you at the Irish Open in Lahinch.
