Life on the Professional Circuit: Séamus Power & Gary Hurley

This week marks a significant moment for Séamus Power and Gary Hurley, as both golfers are set to compete in the prestigious Amgen Irish Open, starting on Thursday. Gary received confirmation of his entry last Friday as one of the Sport Ireland invitees, while Séamus qualified based on his top 70 ranking in the FedEx standings.

Their preparations for the tournament have taken different paths. Gary has been competing for the last four consecutive weeks on the DP World Tour and Challenge Tour, including this week’s Omega European Masters in Switzerland. In contrast, Séamus is returning after a couple of weeks off, having last competed at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in mid-August.

It’s a proud moment for our club to have two of our members participating in the National Open. We look forward to watching their performances at Royal County Down and wish them both the very best of luck.

As noted earlier, Gary competed in the Omega European Open in Switzerland this week. Challenging winds made for difficult playing conditions, but with rounds of 68, 70, 74, and 70, Gary secured a respectable T56 finish.

Course Maintenance Notice

On Tuesday, October 10th, maintenance work will be carried out on the course, requiring the temporary closure of some holes. Consequently, the ‘Tuesday Treats’ Gents 9-hole open competition will not take place this week. Instead, an open Gents 9-hole competition will be held on Monday evening.

Dungarvan Golf Club Centenary Celebration

Last Friday, Club President Jim, along with Captains Niall and Bridget, attended the centenary celebrations at Dungarvan Golf Club. They were delighted to represent West Waterford Golf Club at this special occasion. We extend our congratulations to Dungarvan Golf Club and wish them the very best for the future.
