Hectic times in West Waterford.  The Summer golf season is well underway. Club competitions and Inter Club matches are a feature every week and it is great to welcome visitors to our course in West Waterford which is looking pristine at the moment.

Mary Donnelly Sweeps to Victory:  On Sunday the second of our Majors, the Captain’s Prize to the Ladies took place. Denis Herlihy presented a beautiful decanter and glasses, a much coveted prize that we all wanted to win!  Mary Donnelly scorched around the course coming home with a nett 67 playing off 28. Aine Parks played great golf to take second with a nett score of 71 playing off 31. Deirdre Ruane played solid golf to win the gross with an 87 nett playing off 15.  Phil Kelly, our Competitions Secretary got on the scoreboard when she finished third with a fine 71 playing off 30.  Cat A prize was won by Mary Lou Carroll playing off 20 with a nice 73.  Our Lady Captain Ciara Donnelly continues her good run of form winning Cat B with a 72 nett playing off 28.  Marie Curran played lovely golf to win Cat C with a nett score of 75 playing off 31.  In Cat D Mary French was back in the Winners enclosure with a fine score of 73 points playing off 39.  Congratulations to all the winners and sincere thanks to Denis for putting up such an elegant prize.

Local Derby in Mixed Competition:  On Thursday evening last West Waterford hosted our neighbours Dungarvan in the first round of the Golf Ireland Mixed Inter Club competition.  The matches were tight, and for those of us spectators, there was some great golf played in blustery conditions.  It came down to the deciding match on the 18th green when Dungarvan claimed a hard earned victory.

ReviveTeam just bow out to Tramore:  There may have been a Food Festival going on in Dungarvan on Saturday, but out in West Waterford a huge gallery of supporters were treated to a feast of good golf.  West Waterford were hosting Tramore in the second round of the Revive Team competition.  After nine holes all five matches were evenly matched.  However on the second nine despite our team’s best efforts, victory went Tramore’s  way. It was history repeating itself in the space of two days  for West Waterford ,as victory slipped away once again on the 18th green.

Dalton Jewellers Match Play:  Please put your name up for the Dalton Jewellers Club Match Play competition.
