POWERPLAY GOLF IRISH CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT
Friday, 15th August 2008

West Waterford Golf Club is staging the South East’s only PowerPlay Golf Irish Championship Qualifying Event on Friday 15th August. The event at the club will run throughout the day and is open to male and female with a golf handicap certificate.

PowerPlay Golf is an exciting new 9-hole format available only at official venues across Ireland. Launched at Powerscourt Golf Club to great acclaim in January and scheduled to roll out in 42 countries, PowerPlay Golf is described by many as ‘golf’s version of Tag-Rugby’.

Each green in a game of PowerPlay Golf has two flags, rather than one. Players on a ‘PowerPlay’ aim for the Black Flag, the harder of the two, with extra points as a reward for birdies or better. The ‘risk-and-reward’ format heightens tension, and makes golfers think harder about their shots.

Tom Whelan, Golf Manager of West Waterford, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming members and visitors to West Waterford for the South East’s only PowerPlay Golf Irish Championship Qualifying Event. PowerPlay Golf is great fun, but very competitive, too, so everyone’s going to really enjoy themselves, and you never know, we might just find the Irish Champion here in Waterford!”

The top three scores on the day will qualify for the PowerPlay Golf Irish Championship Final at Powerscourt Golf Club on October 6th with the eventual winner being crowned Irish Champion and progressing to represent Ireland at the World Championship in Bahrain next year.

Entry to the PowerPlay Golf Championship at West Waterford is €20 per entry for visitors. To enter, or find out more, contact the club on 058 43216 or 058 41475 or email info@westwaterfordgolf.com.

Powerplay Rules & Format

PowerPlay Golf (www.powerplay-golf.com) is the two-flag, ‘risk and reward’ golf format soon to be seen on TV screens and in 42 countries around the world. Players earn extra points for birdies or better when playing to the Black Flag, which is always in a difficult position on the green. A round of PowerPlay Golf is generally over 9 holes, and takes half the time of a normal 18-hole round. See www.powerplay-golf.com
