Power fires 4-under 68 as Bucs finish 8th in Puerto Rico


Senior Seamus Power fired a 4-under 68 on Tuesday.

RIO GRANDE, P.R. (Feb. 23, 2010) – Senior Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) fired a team-best round of 4-under-par 68 on the final day of the Puerto Rico Classic Tuesday at the Rio Mar Golf Club’s River Course.

Power’s day lifted him into a tie for 13th on the individual leaderboard at 6-under 210 for the event (68-74-68), and his efforts helped the No. 33-ranked ETSU men’s golf team to an eighth place finish on the team leaderboard at 4-under-par 859. The Bucs finished ahead of teams such as No. 12 Alabama, as well as programs such as Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Michigan and Ohio State.

No. 9 Texas outlasted No. 1 Oklahoma State by six strokes for the team championship, finishing at 822 for the tournament. Individually, Oklahoma State’s Kevin Tway posted a final round 66 to best Texas’ Cody Gribble by three storkes. Tway finished with an impressive three round score of 17-under 199 (65-68-66).

Along with Power, other ETSU results included a tie for 32nd by sophomore Michael Stewart (Troon, Scotland), who finished at 1-over 217. In addition, freshman Garth McGee (Bangor, Northern Ireland) tied for 39th
