East of Ireland Championship
Once again Gary Hurley put in another fine performance in the East of Ireland Championship at Baltray over the bank holiday weekend. With a best of the day score of 67 in the final round Gary finished just 2 shots off the mark.
First Golfer of the Year Competition
The 2012 GOY Competition kicks off this weekend with an 18-hole strokeplay competition. While a player may re enter the weekend competition his first entry will determine his GOY score. Overall there will be 5 competitions and the player with the best 4 cards will be the winner. There is a fantastic first prize of an overnight package at Dundrum House hotel for two people with golf and dinner included.
Friary Handball Golf Classic
12th Annual Golf Classic at West Waterford , Friday and Saturday 8th and 9th June 2012.
Four person team of any combination, format to score is: one score to count on holes 1 to 13 two scores to count on holes 14, 15 and 16 and three scores to count on the holes 17 and 18. Prize for the nearest to the pin on the 13th hole. Entry €120 per team.
Time sheet is now posted in the club house.
Irish Mixed Foursomes
Congratulations to our mixed foursomes team on their magnificent victory over a highly fancied Faithlegg team at Gold Coast on Saturday evening last. In atrocious weather conditions the West Waterford team battled the elements and clinched victory on the 19th hole in the final two matches. They now go forward to meet Dunmore East at the Gold Coast on 16th June.
Belvedere Trophy
West Waterford lost out to Gold Coast in the first round of this comp[etition. Edward Hickey’s team put in a brave effort in the home leg but could not overcome the large deficit from the away leg played at the Gold Coast. Thank you to Edward and his team who have a proud record in this competition and best wishes to neighbours Gold Coast in the next round.
Willie Wins in Wexford.
On a recent members group outing popular club member Willie Lyons took top honours in a two round competition. Playing over two courses, St Helen’s Bay and Rosslare Willie snatched the title from Austin Spratt by virtue of a better score on the challenging Rosslare links course. With temperatures in the 20’s a great time was had by all and plans are currently underway for the next outing.
Tuesday High Handicap
Our very popular high handicap competitions continue every Tuesday with all handicap levels welcome to participate. All outstanding high handicap vouchers are now available at the office.
Competition Entry Rules
Members are requested to familiarise themselves with the notice regarding the conditions relating to playing in club competitions. This policy is being introduced in line with GUI guidelines and we would earnestly ask all players to comply with those conditions. Draw for the above competitions takes place on Friday 8th June. Please place your name on entry sheets now. Entry Sheets for both club competitions are now posted on the notice board.
Al Eile Stud Open Competition
Our very popular Al Eile Stud Open Competition continues every Wednesday until the grand final on 26th September. Our thanks to Al Eile Stud who have kindly sponsored this competition.
Golfer of the Year 2012
The winner this year will receive an overnight stay with B&B, one evening meal and a round of golf for two at Dundrum House Hotel. Valuable green fees are available to runners up. So if you fancy your chances make a note of the date for the first GOY event of 2012. Full details are available on the poster now on the notice board. This season’s Golfer of the year competition will take place over five rounds commencing on 9th and 10th June with an 18-hole Strokeplay event. Overall there will be three Strokeplay and two Stableford competitions with a players best 4 scores to count for GOY points. As usual the Captain’s and President’s prizes are included with the two round averages determining a player’s score for goy points. In our weekend competitions a player’s first entry will count for goy points.
Junior Golf
