Powerful Performance in Puerto Rico

Once again Seamus Power has shown that he can compete with the top players on the American College circuit. At the Puerto Rico Classic held from Feb 21st – 23rd he posted scores of 68-74-68 placing him in a tie for 13th on the individual leaderboard. His performance was also instrumental in securing an 8th place finish for his ETSU team in a high quality field. To crown a very successful month the Bucs were recently named Team of the Week by Golfweek.com.

The award was granted on the strength of the team’s win in the JU Invitational hosted at TPC Sawgrass earlier this month, at which the Bucs placed four players in the top 15. Seamus and his teammates return to action on March 14th at the General Hackler Invitational in Myrtle Beach S.C. All at West Waterford rejoice in the continuing success story of Seamus and no doubt, ETSUBucs.com will be getting extra hits from this side of the globe over the next few months.

Hurley makes waves at Rosslare

On Saturday last playing in the South East Senior Alliance at Rosslare Golf Club, Gary Hurley further enhanced his reputation as West Waterford’s new star in the making. His level par round over the very testing links course was good enough to take top honors from a strong field of senior golfers. At the tender age of 16 this is quite an achievement for the Irish Boys panelist. With his talent and work ethic further success is inevitable and we all wish him well.

Competition Results for week ending Sunday 28th February

Rules of Golf – Water Hazard

To take relief from a water hazard drop a ball behind the hazard keeping the point where the ball entered the hazard in line with the hole. This is to clear up a misconception that if the ball first clears the water and comes back into it the rule is still the same.

Pro tip – Hinge and Hold

Take your most lofted wedge and place the ball opposite your right toe so that your hands are well ahead of the ball thus creating an angle between the club and left arm. Keep the stance narrow. Swing your arms back so that the club is parallel with the ground with. Then swing through smoothly and ensure the club and your left arm form a straight line
