WLR Lions Club Christmas Hamper Appeal

The WLR Lions Club Christmas Hamper Appeal Open Golf Competition will take place at West Waterford Golf and Country Club on Thursday 20th, Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd December. West Waterford Golf Club members and visitors are urged to lend their support to this most worthy of causes. The competition is an Open 16-hole Stableford event for both Ladies and Gents, to reserve a tee-time please telephone West Waterford on 058-43216 or 058-41475.

Winter League 2008

Preparations are well underway for the Winter League which following the success of last year’s event is bound to generate huge interest. The League is scheduled to commence on Wednesday 2nd January. All new members are especially welcome to take part and the first step is to contact either Jimmy Murphy on 085-7320907 or Pat Power on 087-6611276, inform the office that they intend to play on a team, or simply place their name and contact number on the list posted in the Clubhouse. All members are asked to keep an eye on the notice boards for current news on the Winter League. Any member not available to participate in the league is urged to place their name on the non-playing list posted in the Clubhouse, or alternatively, contact either Jimmy Murphy on 085-7320907 or Pat Power on 087-6611276 or inform the office that they do not intend to participate in the League. This is necessary so that teams do not end up with a raft of “non-players”.

Names only on Timesheets and Cancelled Tee-times

With more limited time available for play and increased playing numbers, the practice of putting down a name +1 or +2 is no longer acceptable. With immediate effect +1 or +2 on singles timesheets will be removed. Only individual names will suffice as this identifies who is actually booked in to play. This facilitates the smooth running of the timesheet. All members are also urged to telephone the office, at the earliest opportunity, if they wish to cancel a tee time that they have previously booked, in the interest of fairness to all. Please remember: Players with their names on the timesheet have priority on the 1st tee.

Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Men’s Club took place on Wednesday 28th November and the election of officers took place as follows, Captain: Malcolm Ashby, Vice-captain: Lanson Kelly, President: Bertie Hallahan, Honorary Secretary: Maurice Hallahan, Handicap Secretary: Pat Power, Honorary Treasurer: John Flynn, Competition Secretary: John Laverty, PRO: Eddie Stack, Junior Officer: Justin Spratt, Ex-Officio: Michael O’Dwyer, Committee Members: Billy Nugent, Austin Spratt, Terry O’Callaghan, Brendan Cullinan, Jimmy Murphy, Edward Hickey, Ollie Broderick, Andy Hickey and Gerry Carolan. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the very best of luck to Malcolm and his committee for 2008 and best wishes also to Lady Captain Joan Curran and her Committee for the coming year.

Junior Notes

The next Junior competition takes place on Wednesday 2nd January at 9am

Christmas Best Wishes

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the management to wish all our members, visitors, sponsors and local newspapers and media a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2008, and thank them all most sincerely for their support during the year.

Killeagh GAA Golf Society Annual Outing

On Sunday 16th December last Killeagh GAA had yet another very successful golf society outing at West Waterford. It is worth noting that this was their 14th consecutive Christmas outing to us and we thank them for their continued support. Needless to say Ray Rochford was the organiser in chief and we would like to thank Ray most sincerely once again.

Christmas Gift Ideas

Vouchers may be purchased at the shop in West Waterford Golf Club which may be exchanged for golf merchandise or green fees at West Waterford. Another possible Christmas gift would be the “Dungarvan Golf Triangle Ticket” which offers 3 games of golf playing Monday to Friday at West Waterford, Dungarvan and Gold Coast for €80.

Best Wishes

Best wishes from the Management and Members of West Waterford to Course Superintendent at Dungarvan Golf Club, Michael Mernin for a speedy recovery from his recent setback.

Dungarvan Golf Triangle

A major selling point of our three courses, Dungarvan Golf Club, Gold Coast Golf Club and ourselves West Waterford Golf Club is that we are all within 5 minutes drive of Dungarvan town center. The “Dungarvan Golf Triangle” effectively, allows you to purchase a ticket that enables you to play each of the three courses, Monday to Friday for the combined price of €80, and in this era of high green fee rates, this represents good value. ‘The Dungarvan Golf Triangle’ is being advertised through all the usual mediums and is on sale in each of the three golf clubs. Tickets are valid up to 31st December 2007.

With more limited time available for play and increased playing numbers, the practice of putting down a name +1 or +2 is no longer acceptable.
