Minor Scratch Cup

The timesheet is now filling up quite nicely for our Minor Scratch Cup which takes place on Sunday 30^th September, and which is kindly sponsored this year by Gleeson Group. It is an 18 Hole Stableford event with a handicap range of 18 plus. There are still limited times available, so to make a reservation please telephone West Waterford on 058-43216 or 058-41475.

The next Al Eile Stud Qualifier takes place on Wednesday next, 26^th September. There are now only 4 more chances to qualify for the Grand final which takes place on Sunday 21^st October

Next High handicap will take place on Tuesday 25^th September and will be a 7-hole Stableford competition on holes 1, 4, 5,6,7,8 and 9.

Congratulations

Well done to Justin Spratt, Team Captain of our All Ireland Junior Foursomes winning team on capturing the August Monthly Award in the Park Hotel Sport-star series. This is well deserved recognition for the marvelous achievement of bringing 2 All Ireland titles to West Waterford in the space of 3 years, and is testament to the enormous time and effort invested by Justin in the Junior Section since the Club’s foundation. Many thanks to the Park Hotel, and well done to Justin and his team.

Jack Lynch Memorial Trophy

Congratulations to Dungarvan Golf Club who proved worthy winners of the Jack Lynch Memorial trophy on Monday evening last. Despite the best efforts of Malcolm and his team we had to settle for third place. Many thanks to Johnny Lynch and the Parrish Bar for his hospitality on the night and the opportunity to drown our sorrows!!!!

Forthcoming Events

Club Classic kindly Sponsored by RPD Construction (Ray Donnelly)

The annual fundraising Open Club Classic will take place on Sunday 14^th October (limited time up to 10am also on Saturday 13^th October). This important fundraiser for the Club helps in the running of Club teams and supporting the junior section which is all the more pertinent this year following the Club’s second All Ireland Junior Foursomes title in 3 years, and all members are urged to bring along two golfers from visiting clubs for this open 3 person event. To win 2 All Ireland titles in 3 years is truly a remarkable achievement for such a small club and it shows the abundance of talent that our young members have. The cost of bringing any team to an All-Ireland final bears heavily on the club’s finances and that is one of the main reasons we run a club classic each year. The committee of West Waterford urges all members to redouble their efforts this year. The Club Classic is being kindly sponsored this year by RPD Construction (Ray Donnelly) and the Club is very appreciative of his support. Teams of three for the Classic may be gents, ladies or mixed. The format is 1 to count on the first six holes, 2 to count on the next 9 holes and all three to count on 16, 17 and 18 (TBC). Special Presentation to All-Ireland Junior Foursomes Winning Team

A special presentation to all the panelists and Team Captain Justin Spratt of the All Ireland Junior Foursomes winning team will take place on Sunday 14^th October following the Club Classic. The presentation was deferred owing to the sad and untimely passing of former Lady Captain Bernie Twomey.

Open Qualifier kindly Sponsored by Al Eile Stud (Grand Final)

The timesheet for the Grand Final of the Al Eile Stud Open qualifier which takes place on Sunday 21^st October is now available. All qualifiers thus far have been notified and one and all are urged to telephone West Waterford on 058-43216 or 058-41475 as soon as possible to secure a tee-time for the Grand Final. The timesheet for the Grand Final which is an 18-hole Stableford competition is running from 9.32 am to 1.56pm. The presentation of prizes for the Grand Final will take place on Sunday 21^st October in the Clubhouse at 6.15 sharp.

Quiz Night on Friday 26^th October

All members and their friends are encouraged to come along to support this event which takes place on Friday 26^th October at West Waterford Golf Club. All proceeds are to support the fundraising efforts of staunch and loyal club member and incoming President for 2008 Bertie Hallahan who is supporting a team of builders who are going to build houses for people in need in the townships of Capetown, South Africa under the auspices of the Niall Mellon Township Trust for 2007.

Dungarvan Golf Triangle

A major selling point of our three courses, Dungarvan Golf Club, Gold Coast Golf Club and ourselves West Waterford Golf Club is that we are all within 5 minutes drive of Dungarvan town center. The “Dungarvan Golf Triangle” effectively, allows you to purchase a ticket that enables you to play each of the three courses, Monday to Friday for the combined price of €80, and in this era of high green fee rates, this represents good value. ‘The Dungarvan Golf Triangle’ is being advertised through all the usual mediums and is on sale in each of the three golf clubs. Tickets are valid up to 31^st December 2007.

Deise Golf Pass News

At a recent meeting of the participating Golf Clubs from the Deise Pass Imitative, it was agreed to proceed with a series of Open Winter Competitions. There will be 5 qualifiers each week in each Golf Club (3 members and 2 non-members), which will mean that there will be 100 golfers for the Grand Final which will take place in April, with a precise date and venue to be arranged. West Waterford’s 2 weeks are 12^th November to 18^th November 2007 and 3^rd March to 9^th March 2008.

Dungarvan – 8^th October to 14^th October 2007 and 28^th January to 3^rd February 2008.

Dunmore East – 15^th October to 21^st October 2007 and 4^th to 10^th February 2008, if verified by 10 a.m. Wednesday 5^th September.

Faithleg – 22^nd October to 28^th October 2007 and 11^th February to 17^th February 2008.

Gold Coast – 29^th October to 4^th November 2007 and 18^th February to 24^th February 2008. 

Tramore – 5^th November to 11^th November 2007 and 25^th February to 2^nd March 2008.

West Waterford – 12^th November to 18^th November 2007 and 3^rd March to 9^th March 2008.
