Gents Notes for week ending 24th June 2007
West Waterford Golf and Country Club Play Host to Ireland vs. Scotland Youths International and the Irish Youths Championship of 2007
This coming week is a momentous occasion for West Waterford Golf Club as we stage an International match on Wednesday 27th between the Irish and Scottish youths teams. This is the forerunner for our hosting of the Irish Youths Championship of 2007 on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th June. Painstaking preparations have been taking place since our initial meetings with Golfing Union Officials in January and now the stage is set for the most prestigious event thus far at West Waterford Golf Club.
The schedule for the week is as follows:
Monday 25th June - 4pm to 4.30pm-International teams practice.
Tuesday 26th June – 9am to 9.30am and 2pm to 3.30pm – International teams practice.
Wednesday 27th June – 9am to 9.30am and 2pm to 3pm Scotland vs. Ireland International Match and 10.30 am to 12noon and 3pm to 4.30pm Youths Practice.
Following the International match, there will be a dinner and presentation attended by both teams and officials from the respective golfing unions together with officers of the host Club.
Thursday 28th June – Irish Youths Championship - 7am to 9am and 12noon to 2pm (two tee start)
Friday 29th June - Irish Youths Championship - 7.30am to 9am and 12.30am to 2pm (two tee start).
The presentation of prizes for the Irish Youths Championship 2007 will take place immediately after play in the Clubhouse and the speakers will include the Chairman of the Munster Branch G.U.I, the President of the Golfing Union of Ireland and the Captain of West Waterford Golf Club, Mr. Michael O’Dwyer.
At this juncture, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members who have volunteered for the numerous tasks associated with the smooth running of such a prestigious event. We would also like to invite any interested spectators for the duration of the event, especially members of the local Clubs. On that note we would like to thank the numerous well wishers, we have had prior to the event. At this stage everything is in place, fingers crossed for some kind weather!
Captains Prize 2007 Kindly Presented by Michael O’Dwyer
Following hard on the heels of the ninth year of the Dungarvan Golf International which showcases golf in the area and our landmark staging of the Irish Youths Championship of 2007 on the 28th and 29th June. Preparations are well under way and there is an air of anticipation at West Waterford Golf and Country Club as we look forward to the first and premier ‘major’ of 2007. The timesheets are now posted for the Captain’s Prize kindly presented by Michael O’Dwyer. The qualifying round of 18-hole stroke takes place on Friday and Saturday 29th and 30th June, with the leading 90 qualifiers completing again on Sunday 1st July over another 18-holes, with the aggregate score over the qualifying round and the final round determining the winner. The draw for playing partners and precise playing time takes place in the Clubhouse on Wednesday evening 27th June at 8pm. Michael is a staunch and hard-working Club member, and has done Trojan work in attempting to carry out numerous Club duties in his own inimitable way, and I am sure all the members will be out in force to support him. We wish Michael and Lyla all the very best for this prestigious weekend at West Waterford Golf and Country Club. The presentation of prizes will take place in the Clubhouse on Sunday night 1st July and all members and friends are welcome for what promises to be a memorable night to round off the Captain’s weekend.

Waterford Ladies Football Golf Classic
The Waterford Ladies Football Golf Classic scheduled for Thursday 21st & Friday 22nd June has been deferred due to the prevailing inclement weather and has been re-scheduled for Thursday 9th and Friday 10th August. The Classic is sponsored by Liam Whelan Plant Hire and Ger Enright Eurospar. Entry fee is €120 per team of four, gents, ladies or mixed. The playing format is Stableford with 2 scores to count on holes 1 to 15 and 3 scores to count on the last 3 holes. Handicap limits apply to Gents 22 and Ladies 32. Dungarvan Golf Triangle
A major selling point of our three courses, Dungarvan Golf Club, Gold Coast Golf Club and ourselves West Waterford Golf Club is that we are all within 5 minutes drive of Dungarvan town center. The “Dungarvan Golf Triangle” effectively, allows you to purchase a ticket that enables you to play each of the three courses, Monday to Friday for the combined price of €80, and in this era of high green fee rates, this represents good value. ‘The Dungarvan Golf Triangle’ is being advertised through all the usual mediums and is on sale in each of the three golf clubs. Tickets are valid up to 31st December 2007.
Deise Golf Pass
This new initiative was launched in Tramore Golf Club on Monday last and is the first of its kind in Ireland. As a full member of the 10 participating Clubs you may avail of golf at any of the Clubs and receive a 25% discount off the published green fee rate (Monday to Friday, terms and conditions apply). This offer is open to full individual members of the participating Clubs which are as follows: Carrick, Dungarvan, Dunmore East, Faithlegg, Gold Coast, Tramore, Waterford, Waterford Castle, West Waterford and Williamstown.
