West Waterford Golf News and Notes

Gents Notes for week ending 17th June 2007

Captains Prize 2007 Kindly Presented by Michael O’Dwyer

Following hard on the heels of the ninth year of the Dungarvan Golf International which showcases golf in the area and our landmark staging of the Irish Youths Championship of 2007 on the 28th and 29th June. Preparations are well under way and there is an air of anticipation at West Waterford Golf and Country Club as we look forward to the first and premier ‘major’ of 2007. The timesheets are now posted for the Captain’s Prize kindly presented by Michael O’Dwyer. The qualifying round of 18-hole stroke takes place on Friday and Saturday 29th and 30th June, with the leading 90 qualifiers completing again on Sunday 1st July over another 18 holes, with the aggregate score over the qualifying round and the final round determining the winner. The draw for playing partners and precise playing time takes place in the Clubhouse on Wednesday evening 27th June at 8pm. Michael is a staunch and hard-working Club member, and has done Trojan work in attempting to carry out numerous Club duties in his own inimitable way, and I am sure all the members will be out in force to support him. We wish Michael and Lyla all the very best for this prestigious weekend at West Waterford Golf and Country Club. The presentation of prizes will take place in the Clubhouse on Sunday night 1st July and all members and friends are welcome for what promises to be a memorable night to round off the Captain’s weekend.

Dungarvan Golf International kindly sponsored by Saltan Properties (Michael Ryan) & Bulmers

This prestigious event now in its ninth year took place from 12th to the 14th June at our three local courses and once more proved to be a resounding success. Dungarvan Golf Triangle

A major selling point of our three courses, Dungarvan Golf Club, Gold Coast Golf Club and ourselves West Waterford Golf Club is that we are all within 5 minutes drive of Dungarvan town center. The “Dungarvan Golf Triangle” effectively, allows you to purchase a ticket that enables you to play each of the three courses, Monday to Friday for the combined price of €80, and in this era of high green fee rates, this represents good value. ‘The Dungarvan Golf Triangle’ is being advertised through all the usual mediums and is on sale in each of the three golf clubs. Tickets are valid up to 31st December 2007.

Deise Golf Pass

This new initiative was launched in Tramore Golf Club on Monday last and is the first of its kind in Ireland. As a full member of the 10 participating Clubs you may avail of golf at any of the Clubs and receive a 25% discount off the published green fee rate (Monday to Friday, terms and conditions apply). This offer is open to full individual members of the participating Clubs which are as follows: Carrick, Dungarvan, Dunmore East, Faithlegg, Gold Coast, Tramore, Waterford, Waterford Castle, West Waterford and Williamstown.
