Gents Notes for week ending 10^th December 2006

Competition Results:

Friday, Saturday & Sunday 8^th, 9^th & 10^th December – Club competition, 16-hole Stableford.

1^st: Mike Daly (14) - 41pts. 2^nd: Michael Landers (15) - 36pts. 3^rd: Graham O'Mahony (13) - 36pts. Gross: Mick O'Riordan (6) - 29pts.

Open Wednesday Competition 6^th December

1^st: Mike Daly (14) - 42pts. 2^nd: Billy Nugent (16) - 38pts. 3^rd: Justin Spratt (15) - 38pts.

Final Autumn/Winter Open takes place next Wednesday 13^th December, Open Wednesday Competitions will resume in the Spring following the Comeragh Oil sponsored Winter League. Don’t forget the WLRfm Lions Club Christmas Hamper Appeal next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 20^th, 21^st and 22^nd, all proceeds to the appeal.

Saturday 16^th December – Brickey Golf Society 11am – 12 noon

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 20^th, 21^st and 22^nd December – WLRfm Lion’s Club Christmas Hamper Appeal

Saturday 23^rd December – 9 hole Scramble, 1pm shotgun start followed by finger food, entertainment and presentation of prizes.

Sunday 24^th December - Club Competition, 16 Holes Stableford

Christmas Day-9-hole Bottle of Brandy, 9am to 10.30am, kindly sponsored by Management West Waterford Golf Club.

Tuesday 26^th, Wednesday 27^th and Thursday 28^th December - Junior fundraising competition kindly sponsored by Mahers Golf Emporium Cork, 16-hole Stableford

Friday 29^th and Saturday 30^th December - Club competition, 16-hole Stableford,

Sunday 31^st December and Monday 1^st January - Club competition, 16-hole Stableford,

Please note that the Brickey Golf Society Christmas Scramble now takes place on Saturday 16^th at 11am, owing to the Brickey’s Intermediate team contesting the County Final on Sunday.

Christmas Present ideas:

Vouchers may be purchased at the shop in West Waterford Golf Club which may be exchanged for golf merchandise or green fees at West Waterford. Another possible Christmas gift would be the “Dungarvan Golf Triangle Ticket” which offers 3 games of golf playing Monday to Friday at West Waterford, Dungarvan and Gold Coast for €80.

Winter League 2006 kindly sponsored by Comeragh Oil:

Preparations are well underway for the Winter League which following the success of last year’s event is bound to generate huge interest. The League is scheduled to commence on Wednesday 3^rd January. Any member interested in participating in the league is urged to place their name on the lists posted in the Clubhouse. All new members are especially welcome to take part and again the first step is to place names on the list or inform the office that they intend to play on a team. All members are asked to keep an eye on the notice boards for current news on the Comeragh Oil sponsored competition.

Killeagh Golf Society Golf Outing:

On Saturday last Killeagh GAA had yet another very successful golf society outing at West Waterford. It is worth noting that this was their 14^th consecutive Christmas outing to us and we thank them for their continued support. Needless to say Ray Rochford was the organiser in chief and we would like to thank Ray most sincerely once again.

Timesheets:

Please remember: Players with their names on the timesheet have priority on the 1^st tee. This is important and especially so over the Christmas and the New Year period with increased playing numbers. Timesheets are in operation 20^th to 24^th December inclusive and from 26^th December to 1^st January 2007 inclusive. To book a tee-time simply telephone West Waterford on 058-43216 or 058-41475.

Annual General Meeting:

The Annual General Meeting of the Men’s Club took place on Wednesday night last and the election of officers took place as follows, Captain: Michael O’Dwyer, Vice-captain: Malcolm Ashby, President: Brendan Cullinan, Honorary Secretary: Maurice Hallahan, Handicap Secretary: Pat Power, Honorary Treasurer: John Flynn, Competition Secretary: John Laverty, PRO: Eddie Stack, Junior Officer: Justin Spratt, Ex-Officio: Ollie Broderick, Committee Members: Billy Nugent, Austin Spratt, Terry O’Callaghan, Bertie Hallahan, Jimmy Murphy, John Murphy, Edward Hickey, Willie Lyons and Larry Veale. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the very best of luck to Michael and his committee for 2007 and best wishes also to Lady Captain Johanna Barron and her Committee for the coming year.
