Seamus Power:
Seamus Power made a valiant attempt to defend his Irish Youths title at Royal Tara Golf Club ending the week in second place following rounds of 71, 73, 69 and 71 for a four round total of 284, four under par. Lurgan’s Gareth Shaw, holder of the North of Ireland title, shot two rounds of 73 on the final day to capture the title having taken a firm grip on the Championship on Thursday, when he recorded a course record 66, which included five birdies and an eagle, followed by a second round 67 to lead by five strokes over Irish Close runner-up Simon Ward (Co. Louth). The lead remained five after the third round, in which Ward matched Shaw’s 73 and Royal Dublin’s Neil O’Brien recorded a round of the day 69 t o tie with Ward on five under par. Both Shaw and O'Brien fell away in the final round and the battle for second place was decided in favor of defending champion Seamus who beat Port Stewart's Paul Culter and Welshman Rhys Enoch on count back. This continues a successful season for Seamus having tasted victory this season with his win at Thurles Golf Club in the Munster Youths Championship where he had a comfortable six shot win over his nearest rival.
