Gents Notes for week ending 16th April 2006
West of Ireland Amateur Open Championship
West Waterford Golf Club was represented by three young golfers at the West of Ireland Amateur Open Championship held at Co. Sligo Golf Club Rosses Point over the weekend.
Commiserations to Mark Shanahan on missing the cut by one shot with rounds of 74 and 75 on Friday and Saturday.
Well done to Alan Harty who made it into the matchplay stage with rounds of 76 and 70 but unfortunately loosing his match on Saturday.
Following a poor 78 in the 1st round on Friday, Seamus Power fresh from his victory last week in the Munster Amateur Open Championship turned in a fantastic 69 on Saturday to make it into the matchplay stages on Sunday and Monday. Winning both his matches on Sunday Seamus made into the last eight on Monday afternoon where he unfortunately succumbed to a 2 and 1 victory by Alan McCormac. Congratulations to Seamus on getting to the last eight in this prestigious competition.
Well done again to all three players and thanks also to the supporters who traveled to Sligo at the weekend.

Timesheet Notice:
Please remember: Players with their names on the timesheet have priority on the 1st tee.
All members are also urged to telephone the office if they wish to cancel a tee time that they have booked in the interest of fairness to all.
Our fixture booklet for the 2006 season has now been published and is now available from the office. All members are urged to pick up a copy in order to make themselves familiar with the up and coming events of what promises to be an extremely busy golfing year at West Waterford Golf and Country Club.
Scramble, Presentation of Prizes and Club mixed Foursomes draw.
Our first scramble of the season will take place on Friday evening 28th April. It is hoped to have scrambles on a monthly basis for the summer months and all members are urged to try their utmost to play. Outstanding prize-giving follows the monthly scrambles in the future.
Subscriptions.
Subscriptions for 2006 should at this stage be paid in full, please remit the appropriate amount by post or to the office in person, immediately.
Dungarvan Golf International
This prestigious event now in its eighth year takes place from 23rd to the 25th May at our three local courses. The International which is jointly sponsored this year by Michael Ryan and his company Saltan Properties together with Bulmers is a showcase event for golf in the area and brings an influx of visitors to the town and surrounding areas which is of benefit to all. Any member of West Waterford, who brings a team, can avail of a free golf entry. This must be specified at the entry stage and all teams must include at least two visitors. For any further information please contact the Tournament Director on 058-5555, 058-42416 or 058-44055.
Golf Lessons:
T.W Murphy E.G.T.F is available for golf lessons. Timmy can be contacted by ringing 086-3521070 for an appointment.
Locker allocation:
The locker fee for 2006 is €15 and should now be paid, any member wishing to forfeit his/her locker is asked to inform the office so that vacant lockers may be made available for hire to members on the waiting list.
Condolences:
Our sincere condolences go to the Power family from Ardmore, to Sean Kelly and all friends of Pat Power who passed away last week following a protracted illness. Pat will be sorely missed from the fairways of West Waterford, especially on the Tuesday evenings of the High Handicap. Sincere condolences also to John Quinn and family on the death of his mother during the week. May they rest in peace.
