Gents Notes for week ending 5th March 2005
Seamus Power in South Africa.
Seamus Power traveled to South Africa with the Irish Amateur Team during the week to take part in the South African Amateur Open. We wish Seamus, the team and Team Manager Michael Byrnes all the best in the competition.
Competition Results
Friday 3rd March to Sunday 5th March 2006 - 18-hole Stableford
1st: Ger Scully (15) - 42pts. 2nd: John Begley (17) - 41pts. Gross: Pat Condon (10) - 39pts. 3rd: Chris Gough (12) - 39pts.
Winter League
The semi-final stage of the Winter League was completed on Sunday with Dungarvan winning against Affane and Carriglea beating Clashmore.
The Winter League Final will be played on Sunday 12th March. Tee times from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Dungarvan vs. Carriglea.
Captains Drive-in, Mixed Scramble and Draw for free subscription.
Mary Quinlan and Ollie Broderick hosted the traditional Captain’s Drive-In on Sunday last and members were out in strength to lend their support to their respective 2006 Captains. The drive-in was followed by a Mixed Scramble. The Subscription Free draw also took place; Percy Walsh emerged the lucky winner and will enjoy free golf for the 2007 season. 2nd prize of Green Fees at Rathsallagh Golf Club was won by Jim Ryan while 3rd prize of Restaurant Vouchers went to John Keane. Another prize of a bottle of wine kindly sponsored by Michael Sheehan of the "Wine Buff Ltd." was won by Malcolm Ashby. We also had a Lotto draw won by Pat Power and Michael Healy who also happen to be the Team Captains for Dungarvan and Carriglea in the Winter League Final: let's hope it encourages their competitive edge! Wine tasting followed which was provided by Wine Buff Ltd; (Michael Sheehan). Music was provided by Pat Power.

The 2nd round of the South East League was held on Saturday 4th March at West Waterford where the home team lined out against Fota Island Golf Club. Results:
West Waterford beat Fota Golf Club 10 to 2
East Cork beat Youghal 10 to 2
Cork Golf Club beat Cobh GC 8 to 4
The next round of the South East League will be held at Cork Golf Club on Saturday 11th March

Please remember: Players with their names on the timesheet have priority on the 1st tee.
Timesheets are in operation for all competitions. Please put your name and those playing with you on the timesheet or call the office to book a Tee-time
All members are also urged to telephone the office if they wish to cancel a Tee-time that they have booked in the interest of fairness to all.
Visitors are asked to note that GUI cards are mandatory.

Pierce Purcell and Jimmy Bruen Panels
Any member who is interested in being considered for selection on either the Pierce Purcell or Jimmy Bruen panels is requested to place their name on the list which is posted on the main notice board in the entrance hallway.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions for 2006 fell due on the 1st January 2006 and at this stage should all be paid, please remit the appropriate amount by post or to the office in person, at your earliest convenience.
Thursday 13th, Friday 14th & Saturday 15th April – Tanzania Hospital Fund Golf Classic The event is organised by Tom Marley.
Dungarvan Senior Pairs Classic
Bookings are very strong for the above event which is a new novel competition for senior players (aged 55 and above) that will take place in early April 2006. In actual fact the event is now 75% full and if any member or golfers known to them wish to participate, they are advised to submit an entry together with the booking deposit of €50 per person, as soon as possible to the Tournament Directors. The 3 day competition will be held on the 3 local courses, Dungarvan, Gold Coast and West Waterford on Tuesday 4th, Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th April 2006. The format of play will be as follows: (A) a 2 person Rumble, (B) a 2 person Scramble, and (C) a Fourball Betterball. It is a team of 2 event and aggregate scores over the three courses will determine the overall winners. There will also be daily prizes. The competition is open to Ladies, Gentleman or Mixed Pairs. A one shot handicap reduction will apply to players playing on their own course (where their handicap is administered). Entry rates to the competition are as follows: 2 nights bed and breakfast accommodation, 3 Lunches and 3 days competition play is €155 per person and for players not wishing to avail of accommodation the rate will be EUR 85 for 3 days competition play and 3 Lunches. Locker Allocation
The locker fee for 2006 is EUR 15 and should now be paid, any member wishing to forfeit hi/her locker is asked to inform the office so that vacant lockers may be made available for hire to members on the waiting list.
