We have resumed the Open Wednesday competitions now that the Comeragh Oil sponsored Winter league is at the matchplay stages. This is hoped to maintain interest and impetus prior to the onset of the summer period when the main body of the golfing calendar for 2006 will be in full swing. The Wednesday competitions will continue up to the re-commencement of the Al Eile Stud Open Qualifiers on Wednesday 19th April.
Mary Quinlan and Ollie Broderick will host the traditional Captain’s drive-in on Sunday 5th March at 2.30pm and all members are urged to lend their support to their respective Captains as we look forward to the dawn of another golfing season in West Waterford. The drive-in will be followed by a Mixed Scramble at 3pm, Draw for Free Subscription and Wine tasting provided by Wine Buff Ltd.; (Michael Sheehan) will also take place in the Clubhouse afterwards.
Any member who is interested in being considered for selection on either the Pierce Purcell or Jimmy Bruen panels is requested to place their name on the list, which is posted on the main notice board in the entrance hallway.
The fixture schedule for the Southeast League is now set out and the full list of dates and details are posted on the notice board. The South East League is a very important stepping stone in the preparation for both the Pierce Purcell and Jimmy Bruen GUI events and our Pierce Purcell and Jimmy Bruen Managers will be keeping a close eye on proceedings and will be trying to select as varied group of players as possible during the South East League so as to ensure the strongest possible teams represent West Waterford later on in the season. We lined out against Cork Golf Club in the first round at Youghal Golf Club on Sunday 19th February.
