Winter League now at the matchplay stage & Open Wednesday Competitions re-commence.
Wednesday 8th February to Sunday 12th February 2006 - 18 Hole Stableford – 4th Round of the Winter League, kindly sponsored by Comeragh Oil.

Sunday 12th saw the completion of the Stableford rounds of the Winter League. Fierce competition amongst teams for their place in the matchplay rounds resulted in some unexpected changes in the last four. Well done to all teams and commiseration's to those who didn’t make it. We hear that Carriglea Captain Michael Healy was already doing "phisio' in anticipation of his team making the cut!

The top 12 teams now go forward to the Matchplay rounds as follows:
1st: Glenbeg - 609. 2nd: Dungarvan - 605. 3rd: Youghal - 605. 4th: Cappagh - 595.
5th: Ring - 595. 6th: Sliamh gCua - 595. 7th: Old Parish - 591. 8th: The Spring - 584.
9th: Carriglea - 583. 10th: Brickies - 583. 11th: Affane - 583. 12th: Clashmore - 582.

The top four teams go through to the quarter-finals stage while the remaining eight play off for their place in the quarter-finals, pairings as follows:
Ring vs. Clashmore. Sliamh gCua vs. Affane. Old Parish vs. Brickies and The Spring vs. Carriglea
Every effort to be made for matches to be completed by Sunday 19th February

Congratulations
That most elusive golf score; the Hole-in-One was achieved on Sunday by popular club member and ardent Tipperary supporter Tony Condon. Tony got his Ace, his first and the first on the course for 2006 on the par-3 fourth. Well done Tony.

Junior Notes
The next Junior competition will take place on Friday 17th February at 10am. All Junior Subscriptions and locker fees for 2006 are now due.

Monday 13th February to Sunday 19th February 2006 - 18-hole Stableford – Winter League Quarter-Finals qualification round. Matches to be completed by Sunday 19th February.

Open Wednesday Competitions

As envisaged we will resume the Open Wednesday competitions now that the Comeragh Oil sponsored Winter League is at the matchplay stages. This is hoped to maintain interest and impetus prior to the onset of the spring/summer period when the main body of the golfing calendar for 2006 will commence. The Wednesday competitions will continue up to the re-commencement of the Al Eile Stud Open Qualifiers on Wednesday 19th April. The first Open Wednesday competition of the series will take place on Wednesday 15th February.

Pierce Purcell and Jimmy Bruen Panels

Any member who is interested in being considered for selection on either the Pierce Purcell or Jimmy Bruen panels is requested to place their name on the list, which is posted on the main notice board in the entrance hallway.

South East League

The fixture schedule for the South-East League is now set out and the full list of dates and details are posted on the notice board. The South East League is a very important stepping stone in the preparation for both the Pierce Purcell and Jimmy Bruen GUI events. Our Pierce Purcell and Jimmy Bruen Managers will be keeping a close eye on proceedings and will be trying to select as varied group of players as possible during the South East League so as to ensure the strongest possible teams represent West Waterford later on in the season. We line out against Cork Golf Club in the first round at Youghal Golf Club on Sunday 19th February. All panelists are requested to be at Youghal Golf Club no later than 9:30am on the day wearing the Club colours.

 

Dungarvan Golf International

Kindly sponsored by Saltan Properties (Michael Ryan) & Bulmers

This prestigious event now in its eighth year takes place from 23rd to the 25th May at our three local courses. The International which is jointly sponsored this year by Michael Ryan and his company Saltan Properties together with Bulmers, is a showcase event for golf in the area and brings an influx of visitors to the town and surrounding areas which is of benefit to all. Any member of West Waterford, who brings a team, can avail of a free golf entry. This must be specified at the entry stage and all teams must include at least two visitors. Dungarvan Senior Pairs Classic
Bookings are very strong for the above event which is a new novel competition for senior players (aged 55 and above) that will take place in early April 2006. The 3 day competition will be held on the 3 local courses, Dungarvan, Gold Coast and West Waterford on Tuesday 4th, Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th April 2006. The format of play will be as follows: (A) a 2 person Rumble, (B) a 2 person Scramble, and (C) a Fourball Betterball. It is a team of 2 event and aggregate scores over the three courses will determine the overall winners. There will also be daily prizes. The competition is open to Ladies, Gentleman or Mixed Pairs. A one-shot handicap reduction will apply to players playing on their own course (where their handicap is administered). Entry rates to the competition are as follows: 2 nights bed and breakfast accommodation, 3 Lunches and 3 days competition play is €155 per person, and for players not wishing to avail of accommodation the rate will be €85 for 3 days competition play and 3 Lunches. Subscriptions
Subscriptions for 2006 fell due on the 1st January 2006, please remit the appropriate amount by post or to the office in person, at your earliest convenience.

Golf Lessons
T.W Murphy E.G.T.F is available for golf lessons. Timmy can be contacted by ringing 086-3521070 for an appointment.

Locker Allocation
The locker fee for 2006 is EUR 15 and is now payable, any member wishing to forfeit his/her locker is asked to inform the office so that vacant lockers may be made available for hire to members on the waiting list.

Timesheet Notice
Please remember: Players with their names on the timesheet have priority on the 1st tee.
All members are also urged to telephone the office if they wish to cancel a tee time that they have booked in the interest of fairness to all.
