Club Classic Sponsored by ACC Property & Business Banking.
The annual fundraising Open Club Classic will take place on Sunday 16th October. This important fundraiser for the Club helps in the running of Club teams and supporting the junior section and all members are urged to bring along two golfers from visiting clubs for this open 3 person event. It is especially salient this year with Seamus Power capturing the Irish Youths title and our Junior Foursomes Team capturing the All-Ireland title. ACC Property & Business Banking is kindly sponsoring the Club Classic this year and the Club are very appreciative of their support. Teams of three for the Classic may be gents, ladies or mixed. The format is 1 to count on the first six holes, 2 to count on the next 9 holes and all three to count on 16, 17 and 18. Tee times may be reserved by telephoning West Waterford on 058-43216 or 058-41475.
Club Mixed Foursomes.
The Club Mixed Foursomes kindly sponsored by Abbey Autos Services (Paudie Landers), reached its conclusion on Friday last with Suzanne Dalton and Chris Gough overcoming Marie Curran and Michael Landers in a fascinating final. Well done to all who played and many thanks again to sponsors Abbey Autos Services (Paudie Landers).
Club Fourball.
The Club Fourball kindly sponsored by Fitzgerald Insurances was decided last week with Tommy Butler and Peter Purcell capturing the title following a hard fought battle with Brendan Cullinan and Billy Nugent in the final. Well done to all participants and a big thank you to sponsors Fitzgerald Insurances.
Club Singles Matchplay.
The Club singles, which is kindly sponsored again this year by East Cork Oil, is now nearing completion. Responsibility of arranging matches lies with the top pairing on the draw sheet in each round.
Golf Lessons.
T.W Murphy E.G.T.F is available for golf lessons. Timmy can be contacted by ringing 086-3521070 for an appointment.
Ryder Cup (C.B.S. v Friary).
West Waterford Golf Club played host to this now annual event between the local secondary schools, which was again kindly sponsored by Noel Devereux Menswear. The match could not have been a tighter affair as they were tied on 6 matches apiece on completion of the 12 ties. The destiny of the Cup had then to be decided in a play off between the top pairing of Cian Kearney for the C.B.S. and Michael Buckley for the Friary. Even though Michael had been previously successful in the match proper against Cian by 1 hole, it was Cian who secured the match for the C.B.S. with his all important birdie on the first extra hole against Michael’s par. The standard of golf on display was top class and augurs well for the future of golf in the area. Well done to all the players, team mentors Johnny Hughes and Donal Williams and thank you to sponsors Noel Devereux Menswear.

Dungarvan Golf Triangle.
Golf tourism as we all know is now a big business in Ireland and the Dungarvan area is ideally placed to garner its share of this ever-expanding market. A major selling point of our three courses, Dungarvan Golf Club, Gold Coast Golf Club and ourselves West Waterford Golf Club is that we are all within 10 minutes drive of Dungarvan town center. The “Dungarvan Golf Triangle” effectively, allows you to purchase a ticket that enables you to play each of the three courses, Monday to Friday for the combined price of €75, and in this era of high green fee rates, this represents good value. ‘The Dungarvan Golf Triangle’ is being advertised through all the usual mediums and is on sale in each of the three golf clubs.
Names only on Timesheets and Canceled Tee Times.
With more limited time available for play and increased playing numbers, the practice of putting down a name +1 or +2 is no longer acceptable. Only individual names will satisfy as this facilitates the smooth running of the timesheet, by identifying who is actually booked in to play with whom. All members are also urged to telephone the office if they wish to cancel a tee time that they have booked in the interest of fairness to all.
