WEST WATERFORD GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB NOTES

Notes for week ending 31st July 2005

PARK HOTEL HONOURS SEAMUS POWER
Seamus Power is the recipient of the prestigious Park Hotel’s Sports Star of the Month Award for June. At a reception in the Park Hotel, on Friday last Seamus was presented with this most sought-after accolade. In attendance were members of the adjudicating panel Fr. Moran who gave a tremendous speech and Kieran O’Connor who presented the award on behalf of the Park Hotel together with West Waterford Officers Alicia Browne, Willie Lyons, Justin Spratt (Junior Officer), Pat Spratt and Seamus’s proud father Edmond. This award is a result of a string of outstanding performances this year where Seamus has represented both Munster and Ireland, but most particularly when he lifted the Irish Youths Title at Portumna Golf Club in June. Previous winners of the Irish Youths include golfers of the caliber of Ronan Rafferty, John McHenry and current European Tour stars Graham McDowell and Paul McGinley who has enjoyed Ryder Cup success in recent years. This week, Seamus plays on the Irish Boys Team in the Home Internationals at Woodhall Spa, the Headquarters of the English Golfing Union. The following week, he plays in the British Boys Championship at Hunstanton where we wish him continued success. The Park Hotel Sports Star selectors are the latest in a long line of officials who have identified the exceptional talents and qualities of Seamus on the National and International golfing scene. Congratulations again to Seamus who continues to keep his club West Waterford in the headlines and long may he do so.
Many thanks to The Park Hotel and all associated with this initiative which honors outstanding sportsmen in their field and is certainly a trophy that is most appreciated by all recipients.
