WEST WATERFORD GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB NOTES
Notes for week ending 3rd July 2005
MUNSTER JUNIOR FOURSOMES (CIDONA JUNIOR INTER CLUB CHALLENGE)
West Waterford won the Munster Junior Foursomes at Mitchelstown Golf Club on Monday 27th of June after a monumental struggle which resulted in a very exciting finish. Having beaten Ballybunion by 5 holes in the morning, we came up against Mahon who had beaten Ennis by 6 holes in the morning. In the final we were 2 holes down with 3 to play. Philip Walsh & David Curran had finished 1 down. Philip Spratt & Seamus Power who were also one down after 15 holes, birdied the 16th and parred the 17th and 18th holes to draw level overall. Then Seamus left his 3rd shot to the par 5 10th (19th hole of the match) less than 2 feet from the pin to claim victory for West Waterford. It was a marvelous day for the club and the large crowd of followers who went up to support the team. Congratulations to the team of Seamus Power, Philip Spratt, Philip Walsh, David Curran, Cian Kearney and Junior Officer Justin Spratt for bringing the Foursomes Pennant to the club. They now have the All Ireland Finals to look forward to which take place on the 23rd August at Dungarvan Golf Club. All the team members would like to thank all the supporters for their attendance, Ballybunion and Mahon for the sporting matches and last but by no means least, Mitchelstown Golf Club for their courtesy and hospitality.
FRED DALY
The West Waterford panel of Seamus Power, Philip Spratt, Philip Walsh, David Curran & Cian Kearney fresh from their success in the Munster Final of the Junior Foursomes on Monday in Mitchelstown Golf Club were again in action in the Munster semi-finals of the Fred Daly in Muskerry Golf Club against a strong team from Killarney. The exertions of their Mitchelstown efforts together with the concession of shots to their opponents proved their undoing and they had to give best to the boys from Killarney. Commiseration's on this occasion to all the panelists and Junior Officer Justin Spratt, but as they say you cannot win them all! Again all the team members would like to thank all the supporters for their attendance in Muskerry, Killarney for a sporting match and Muskerry for their courtesy and hospitality
THANKS.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all who contacted the office to offer their compliments to the club and good wishes to Seamus Power on his recent success on winning the Irish Youths Championship at Portumna.
