WEDNESDAY COMPETITIONS
As envisaged we are going to resume the Wednesday competitions now that the Comeragh Oil sponsored Winter league is at the Matchplay stages. This is hoped to maintain interest and impetus prior to the onset of the spring/summer period when the main body of the golfing calendar for 2005 will commence. The first Wednesday competition will take place next Wednesday 23rd February and they will continue up to the re-commencement of the Failte House Open Qualifiers on Wednesday 13th April.
SOUTH EAST LEAGUE
The South East League is now up and running and the full list of dates and details are posted on the notice board. The South East League is a very important stepping stone in the preparation for both the Pierce Purcell and Jimmy Bruen GUI events. Team Managers will be keeping a close eye on proceedings and will be trying to select as varied group of players as possible during the League so as to ensure the strongest possible teams represent West Waterford later on in the season.
CHILD WELFARE AND PROTECTION IN SPORT
Our dedicated Junior Officers Justin Spratt and Mary Spratt attended a seminar/course on child welfare and protection in sport under the aegis of Waterford Sports Partnership on Monday last 14th February. Amongst many items which were discussed was "The Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport" in Ireland which is designed to provide guidance for those working with young people in sport. The course outlined the type of issues that need to be discussed and addressed to provide the safest and most enjoyable environment for young people and their Club or organisation. It is typical of our Junior Officers dedication that they put on hold their Valentines celebrations in order to attend this most important and informative course. Mary and Justin along with the other attendees received certificates at the conclusion of this most informative and very worthwhile evening.
CATERING SERVICE
Martins Catering Ltd. will take over the catering services in the Clubhouse from 1st March. We wish them every success for the future.
