A golf classic to raise funds in aid of Sunrise Carriglea took place on Friday 25th June at West Waterford Golf Club. The Sisters of the Bon Sauveur opened Sunrise House in 1998 for both male and female adults who require a high level of care, support and supervision. A variety of programs and activities to suit the needs of each person are provided. These activities include social training both within and outside of the center. To facilitate this Sunrise requires its own transport. Proceeds from the Golf Classic will go towards providing this.

J.B. CARR TROPHY

West Waterford met our near neighbors Dungarvan Golf Club in a mouthwatering clash in the County Final stage of the J.B. Carr Trophy competition. Terry O’Callaghan had his panel finely tuned and they made the most of their home advantage to advance to the next stage where they are scheduled to meet the Cork county champions. Dungarvan fielded a strong side who gave their all. We would like to thank them for a most sporting contest. Well Done to Terry and his team thus far and the best of luck for the next match.

The team is made up of the following members: - Terry O'Callaghan (capt'). Billy Nugent, Willie Lyons, Fintan Gee, Tommy Butler, Justin Spratt, Tom Fitzgibbon, Michael French, Finbar Hallinan, Michael O'Dwyer and Brendan Cullinane

J.P.HOULIHAN

The course and clubhouse were a hive of activity on Thursday last with the first day of the Lady Captain’s Prize under way and a local derby in the County Final of the J.B.Carr Trophy taking place when news filtered through about the sad demise of John Pius Houlihan. While John had been a member only in recent years, all that encountered him on the course and clubhouse would bear testament to his popularity. He loved the golf and the craic with amongst others Jack, Michael, his brothers Tom, Michael and Jim and of course the high handicap players on Tuesday evenings. John will be sadly missed and all at West Waterford Golf Club extend their deepest sympathies to the Houlihan Family on their sad loss.

CONDOLENCES

Our sincere condolences go out to loyal club member Pat Lennon and his family on the death of his father Teddy Lennon.

KILLEAGH GAA GOLF CLASSIC

Bookings are now being taken for the KILLEAGH GAA GOLF CLASSIC which takes place from Thursday 8th to Saturday 10th July. It is a team of four stableford and teams may be gents, ladies or mixed and the entry fee is €180.00 per team of 4 players which includes a meal. To book a tee-time simply telephone West Waterford on 058-43216 or 058-41475.

CLUB FOURBALL kindly sponsored by Fitzgerald Insurances

The first round of the Club Fourball has taken place. All players are asked to arrange their matches for the second round, which is to be completed by 11th July.

TIMESHEETS

Time sheets apply for all club competitions. Please put up you’re name and those playing with you for your place on the Tee. Please remember: Players with their names on the timesheet have priority on the 1st Tee.

Owing to increased playing numbers, the practice of putting down a name +1 or +2 is no longer acceptable. Only individual names will suffice as this facilitates the smooth running of the timesheet, by identifying who is actually booked in to play with whom.
