CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Patrick O’Regan, Donal O’Brien and Neil Parks who represented West Waterford Golf and Country Club in The Examiner Am-Am at Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club on Sunday last. They managed a very creditable fourth placing against stiff opposition from all around the province.

Not so formidable were the West Waterford Committee-based team who gave way to a well picked Roscrea team in the Brennan Cup at Roscrea Golf club recently. However the sharp pains of defeat were quickly soothed by the excellent hospitality administered by the host club. Many thanks to Roscrea Golf Club and to Our Club President John Murphy who organized a very enjoyable event.

CAPTAINS PRIZE 2004 KINDLY PRESENTED BY MICHAEL WALSH

Following hard on the heels of the sixth year of the Dungarvan Golf International which showcases golf in the area, there is an air of anticipation at West Waterford Golf and Country Club as we look forward to the first and premier ‘major’ of 2004. The timesheets are now posted for the Captain’s Prize kindly presented by Michael Walsh. The qualifying round of 18-hole stroke takes place on Saturday 5th June and Sunday 6th June, the qualifying rounds to be played from the white markers. The leading 100 qualifers will complete on Bank Holiday Monday 7th June over another 18 holes stroke off the blue markers, with the aggregate score over the qualifying round and the final round determining the winner. The draw for playing partners and precise playing time takes place in the Clubhouse on Wednesday evening 2nd June at 8pm. Michael is a staunch and hard-working Club member, and has done Trojan work in attempting to carry out numerous Club duties in his own inimitable way, and I am sure all the members will be out in force to support him. We wish Michael and Lena all the very best for this prestigious weekend at West Waterford Golf and Country Club. The presentation of prizes will take place in the Clubhouse on Bank Holiday Monday night and all members and friends are welcome for what promises to be a memorable night to round off the Captain’s weekend.

FRIARY HANDBALL CLUB BUILDING FUND GOLF CLASSIC

Timesheets are now filling up quickly for the Friary Handball Golf Classic which takes place this year on Thursday 10th, Friday 11th and Saturday 12th June. This event was a huge success last year and already in excess of 60 teams are booked to play, so early reservation of your tee-time is essential. The continued support of golfers is appreciated in order to clear the outstanding debt on the championship alley and related facilities. The event is a team of four and teams may be all gents, ladies or mixed with an entry fee of EUR 130 per team. Prizes to the value of €3000 are up for grabs and to book a tee-time simply telephone West Waterford on 058-43216 or 058-41475.

GOLF CLASSIC FUND RAISER

A golf classic fund raise is scheduled to take place on Friday 25th June at West Waterford Golf Club in aid of Sunrise Carriglea. The Sisters of the Bon Sauveur opened Sunrise House in 1998 for both male and female adults who require a high level of care, support and supervision. A variety of programmes and activities to suit the needs of each person are provided. These activities include social training both within and outside of the centre. To facilitate this Sunrise requires its own transport. Proceeds from the Golf Classic will go towards providing this. To book a time for the golf classic please contact Jim Furey on 086-8355086 or 024-92539.

DUNGARVAN GOLF INTERNATIONAL

This prestigious event now in its sixth year took place from 25th to the 27th May at our three local courses. The International event was again a huge success and it provided a showcase for golf in the area bringing an influx of visitors to the town and surrounding areas which is of benefit to all.
