Gents Notes for week ending 1^st June 2008

Friary handball Club Building Fund Golf Classic

Timesheets are now posted for the Friary Handball Golf Classic which takes place this year on Friday 6^th and Saturday 7^th June. The event is a team of four and teams may be all gents, ladies or mixed. Prizes to the value of €3000 are up for grabs and to book a tee-time simply telephone West Waterford on 058-43216 or 058-41475.

June Bank Holiday Open Singles kindly sponsored by Ulster Bank

The Open Singles Competition with separate prizes for ladies and gents on Saturday 31^st May, Sunday 1^st June and Bank Holiday Monday 2^nd June proved to be a huge success. The 3 day competition was kindly sponsored by Ulster Bank and we are most grateful for their support.

Pierce Purcell Shield

All roads lead to Tramore Golf Club on Thursday next at 4.30pm for the Area Final (Munster Quarter- Final) of the Pierce Purcell Shield following West Waterford’s magnificent win against a strong Faithlegg selection on Friday last at the home venue. A hearty well done to all the panelists and Team Manager Lanson Kelly on their progress thus far and all members are urged to make every effort to lend their support to the team in Tramore Golf Club on Thursday next.

Belvedere Trophy

Congratulations to Edward Hickey and his Belvedere Trophy team on their epic win over Waterford Golf Club on the away leg of this competition. West Waterford now go on to meet Lismore in the semi-finals. Best of luck to all.

Junior Notes

Junior Competitions recommence for the season on Tuesday 17^th June. 10am start. Best wishes from Management, Junior Officers and all the juniors go to Darragh O’Riordan for a speedy recovery from his recent bout of illness. All hope to see him back on the fairways soon.

East Cork Senior/Junior Challenge

The final of the above competition between our near neighbors Dungarvan and Gold Coast Golf Clubs will take place on Sunday 8^th August at 11am.

This prestigious event now in its 10^th takes place from 10^th to the 12^th June at our three local courses. Final meetings of the International Committee have been taking place and all the finishing touches and fine tuning required ensuring continued success of the event are being put in place. The International is a showcase event for golf in the area and brings an influx of visitors to the town and surrounding areas which is of benefit to all. The launch of the 2008 Classic is taking place together with an information meeting on Monday evening 9^th at 9.pm in the Gold Coast Golf Hotel. Members of the three local clubs are welcome at the nightly entertainment which is taking place at the Park Hotel and Clonea Strand Hotel. The first tee reserved at West Waterford on Tuesday 10^th from 8.30am to 3pm. For any further information please contact the Tournament Co-Coordinator on 058-42870 or 087-2347918.
