Congratulations

Well done to Mark Shanahan on winning the Dungarvan Senior Scratch Cup on Saturday, Mark took the title winning by one shot to local star Kevin Stack. Mark followed up this win with a 6^th place in the Douglas Scratch Cup on Sunday. Well done also to Gordon Adair who finished in eight place.

West Waterford on CNN

Johnson City, Tenn. (April 24, 2008) – During last weekend’s broadcasts of CNN Headline News, the East Tennessee State University men’s golf team were the subject of a special sports feature pointing out the team’s unique (non-American) background with a 2007-08 roster made up of players from Great Britain and Ireland. Featured was our own Seamus Power ETSU Bucs Sophomore who in the interview paid tribute to his home Club West Waterford. The Bucs team are ranked 18^th in the US Collegiate Tour.

Friendship Cup

On Saturday the 26^th April the second round of the Friendship cup between West Waterford and East Cork took place. The final score 13 ½ to 10 1/2 with West Waterford winning overall.

Minor Scratch Cup

The Minor Scratch Cup kindly sponsored this year by Value Centre, scheduled to take place on Sunday 27^th April has now been deferred and will take place on Sunday 18^th May. It is an 18-hole Stableford event with a handicap range of 18 plus.

Rules Night

A Rules of Golf Night for all members will take place following the Scramble on Friday 2^nd May.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions for the 2008 season are now overdue, and we request that all members who haven’t paid to please submit the appropriate amount to the office, by post or in person as soon as possible.

Fixtures Booklet

Our fixture booklet for the 2008 is now freely available in the office. All members are urged to pick up a copy, as soon as possible, and make themselves familiar with the up and coming events as we look forward to another busy year at West Waterford Golf and Country Club. Waterford GAA County Board Training Fund Golf Classic

Bookings are now being taken for the Waterford GAA County Board Training Fund Golf Classic which takes place this year on Thursday 15^th, Friday 16^th and Saturday 17^th May.

This year the event is a team of 3 competition and early reservation of your tee time is essential. To book a tee-time, telephone West Waterford on 058-43216 or 058-41475.

Hole-In-One Recognition

The club is launching a plaque which will display the names of members who have scored a hole in one during a competition on the course, since the Club’s inception. If you have had a hole-in-one in the past and would like to be added to the board - please put your name on the list posted on the notice board or alternatively, notify the Club Captain Malcom Ashby on 058-52900 or 086-1022750 before 1 June.

Handicap Rules Changes

CONGU have recently altered the standard handicap rules, in particular the frequency of player handicap updates, effective as of 1/1/2008.

A major selling point of our three courses, Dungarvan Golf Club, Gold Coast Golf Club and ourselves West Waterford Golf Club is that we are all within 5 minutes drive of Dungarvan town center. The “Dungarvan Golf Triangle” effectively, allows you to purchase a ticket that enables you to play each of the three courses, Monday to Friday for the combined price of €80, and in this era of high green fee rates, this represents good value. ‘The Dungarvan Golf Triangle’ is being advertised through all the usual mediums and is on sale in each of the three golf clubs. Tickets are valid up to 31^st December 2008.

A reminder to all members that as a full member of the 10 participating Clubs you may avail of golf at any of the Clubs and receive a 25% discount off the published green fee rate (Monday to Friday, terms and conditions apply). This offer is open to full individual members of the participating Clubs which are as follows: Carrick, Dungarvan, Dunmore East, Faithlegg, Gold Coast, Tramore, Waterford, Waterford Castle, West Waterford and Williamstown.
