Competition Results

Friday 29^th February to Sunday 2^nd March – Club competition, 18-hole Stableford

1^st: David Byrne (12) – 44pts. 2^nd: Rory Fitzgerald (5) – 43pts. 3^rd: Frank North (19) – 43pts. Gross; Alan Harty (scratch) – 37pts. 4^th: John Longan Jnr’ (16) – 43pts. 5^th: Noel Landers (17) – 42pts. 6^th: John Longan 919) – 42pts.

Winter League

The quarter final matches of the Winter League were completed on Sunday. The successful teams going through to the semi-final matches are paired as follows:-

Dungarvan vs. Clashmore and Abbyside vs. Glenmore. Semi-final matches to be completed by Sunday 9^th March

Captains Drive-in, Mixed Scramble and Subscription Free Draw.

Joan Curran and Malcolm Ashby played to host the traditional Captain’s Drive-In on Sunday last and members were out in force to lend their support to their respective Captains as we look forward to the beginning of another golfing season at West Waterford. The drive-in was followed by a Mixed Scramble at 3pm, and the Subscription Free draw for a complimentary membership for 2009 sponsored by West Waterford Golf Club Ltd. Wine tasting provided by Wine Buff Ltd; (Michael Sheehan) took place in the Clubhouse afterwards, together with finger food, music and craic.

Spring Open Wednesday Competition, Wednesday 27^th February

1^st: Michael Byrne (25) W.W.G.C.C. - 43pts back 9. 2^nd: Michael French (18) W.W.G.C.C. - 43pts. 3^rd: Paul Morrissey (18) W.W.G.C.C. - 41pts.  

Next Spring Open Wednesday will take place on Wednesday 12^th March

Monday 3^rd March up to Sunday 9^th March - Deise Golf Pass Open Week. Open 18-hole competition will run for the week for both Ladies and Gents, handicap limits 20 for men and 30 for ladies. 3 members and 2 visitors will qualify for the Grand Finals which will take place on 24^th April in Waterford Castle Golf Club

Monday 3^rd March up to Sunday 9^th March – Semi-Final Matchplay of the Winter League kindly sponsored by Comeragh Oil.

Wednesday 12^th March – Spring Open Wednesday competition

Friday 14^th March to Monday 17^th March – Club competition, 18-hole Stableford

Wednesday 19^th March – Spring Open Wednesday competition

South East League Fixtures:

West Waterford v East Cork in West Waterford Golf Club on Sunday 9^th March at 10am

West Waterford v Fermoy in East Cork Golf Club on Sunday 29^th March at 11am.

Deise Golf pass Open

As previously mentioned it was agreed between the Golf Clubs of the Deise Golf Pass initiative to proceed with a series of Open Winter Competitions.

The competition will be 18-hole Stableford open to Ladies and Gents, with handicap limits 20 for men and 30 for ladies. There will be 5 qualifiers each week in each Golf Club, (3 members and 2 visitors); this means that that there will be 90 golfers for the Grand Final which will take place on 24^th April at Waterford Castle Golf Club (timesheet available from 10^th April)

The prize for the overall winner will be 4 green fees and 4 meals from each of the 10 participating Clubs within the Deise Golf Pass scheme. Tee- time limitations apply and not available to pre-booked groups.

West Waterford’s second week will take place from 3^rd March to 9^th March 2008. The full remaining list is as follows:

Waterford Castle – 10^th March to 16^th March 2008.

Waterford – 17^th March to 23 March 2008.

Williamstown – 24^th March to 30^th March 2008.

There may be time limitations at some clubs.

Dungarvan GAA Golf Classic 2008 sponsored by Graham Nagle

Timesheets are posted and bookings are now being taken for the Dungarvan GAA Club Golf Classic sponsored by Graham Nagle. The competition takes place on Thursday 20^th, Good Friday 21^st & Easter Saturday 22^nd March and promises to be a very well supported event. The Classic is priced at €150 per team of three players made up of gents, ladies or mixed. The Format is Stableford with 1 score to count on par 4 holes 2 scores on par 3 holes and 3 scores to count on par 5 holes. Junior Scratch Cup

Waterford Crystal is kindly sponsoring the Junior Scratch Cup competition this year. It takes place on Easter Monday 24^th March and is an 18-hole Stroke event with handicap range of 5 to 11. The timesheet is filling up quickly for this prestigious event and prompt reservation of your tee-time is advised. To make your reservation please telephone West Waterford on 058-43216 or 058-41475.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions for the 2008 season are now overdue, and we request that all members who haven’t paid to please submit the appropriate amount to the office, by post or in person as soon as possible.

Fixtures Booklet

Our fixture booklet for the 2008 is now freely available in the office. All members are urged to pick up a copy, as soon as possible, and make themselves familiar with the up and coming events as we look forward to another busy year at West Waterford Golf and Country Club. The fixtures will also be updated for 2008 on our website www.westwaterfordgolf.com in approximately two weeks.

Names only on Timesheets and Cancelled Tee-times

With more limited time available for play and increased playing numbers, the practice of putting down a name +1 or +2 is no longer acceptable. With immediate effect +1 or +2 on singles timesheets will be removed. Only individual names will suffice as this identifies who is actually booked in to play. This facilitates the smooth running of the timesheet. All members are also urged to telephone the office, at the earliest opportunity, if they wish to cancel a tee time that they have previously booked, in the interest of fairness to all. Please remember: Players with their names on the timesheet have priority on the 1^st tee.

Dungarvan Seniors Pairs Classic

This competition which was a huge success last year will again be staged at the 3 local courses Dungarvan, Gold Coast and West Waterford on Tuesday 8^th, Wednesday 9^th and Thursday 10^th April 2008. It is a team event for golfers aged 55 years and above, open to ladies, gents and mixed pairs. The competition fees are as follows: 2 nights B&B, 3 rounds of golf and entry is €149pps, for players not availing of accommodation the competition fee is €75 pp. Last years event was fully subscribed and hopefully the same will apply for this year’s event. Entry forms for this year’s renewal are available at the 3 participating Golf Clubs.
