Fixtures

Wednesday 6th February to Sunday 10th February 16-hole Stableford – Continuation of Round 3 of the Winter League kindly sponsored by Comeragh Oil

Timesheets in operation each day

A full list of our fixtures and other information is available on our website:

Names only on Timesheets and Cancelled Tee-times

With more limited time available for play and increased playing numbers, the practice of putting down a name +1 or +2 is no longer acceptable. With immediate effect +1 or +2 on singles timesheets will be removed. Only individual names will suffice as this identifies who is actually booked in to play. This facilitates the smooth running of the timesheet. All members are also urged to telephone the office, at the earliest opportunity, if they wish to cancel a tee time that they have previously booked, in the interest of fairness to all. Please remember: Players with their names on the timesheet have priority on the 1st tee.

Seamus Power to the fore once more in America

Seamus Power helped his East Tennessee teammates to an impressive 5th place finish in the PING-Arizona intercollegiate played at the Arizona National Golf Club in the last week. In his first tournament of the Spring following a 3 month competitive break, Seamus posted three rounds of 67, 71 and 68 for a 3 round total of 7 under par 214, to finish an impressive fourth on the individual leader board. Seamus and his teammates return to action at the Puerto Rico Classic on February 29th. To keep abreast of Seamus’s progress simply visit; www.etsubucs.com  and go to the Men’s Golf Link.

Pat Noctor Young Sports star Awards

Congratulations to Philip Walsh a member of West Waterford’s 2 All Ireland Junior Foursomes winning teams on being nominated for the Pat Noctor Young Sports Star award, the presentation of which took place in Ard Scoil na Deise on Friday night last. Well done to all the participants, especially Stephen Enright the outright winner.

Margaret Rochford Memorial Shield

There was a huge turnout once more from the Killeagh GAA Golf Society and many local members for the annual Margaret Rochford Memorial Shield which took place on Monday last. The course was in superb condition which goes in some way to explain the fantastic scores returned on the day. Once again Ray Rochford was very much to the fore with the organization of the event, further outlining his great support for West Waterford Golf Club.

New Rules of Golf Booklets

There have been a number of revisions made to the Rules of Golf and consequently new booklets have been produced by the R&A. There is a limited supply of these new booklets available in the office and they will be distributed on a strictly first come first served basis.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions for the 2008 season are now due, we would like to thank those who have already paid for their prompt response, and request all members who haven’t paid to please submit the appropriate amount to the office, by post or in person at their earliest convenience.

Care of the Course

Repairing of pitch/plug marks on greens, replacing of divots on tees and fairways and raking bunkers are all important aspects of care of the course. Numerous visitors to our club in recent months have been complimentary on the quality and appearance of our golf course, please do your level best to keep it this way.

Fixtures Booklet

Our fixture booklet for the 2008 season is now well on the way to being with the publishers, as several members of the Committee are putting together the final nuts and bolts of the calendar for 2008. It should be published in approximately three weeks time and will be freely available in the office. All members are urged to pick up a copy in order to make themselves familiar with the up and coming events of what promises to be an extremely busy golfing year at West Waterford Golf and Country Club.

Dungarvan Seniors Pairs Classic

This competition which was a huge success last year, will again be staged at the 3 local courses Dungarvan, Gold Coast and West Waterford on Tuesday 8th, Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th April 2008. It is a team event for golfers aged 55 years and above, open to ladies, gents and mixed pairs. The competition fees are as follows: 2 nights B&B, 3 rounds of golf and entry is €149pps, for players not availing of accommodation the competition fee is €75 pp. Last years event was fully subscribed and hopefully the same will apply for this year’s event. Entry forms for this year’s renewal are available at the 3 participating Golf Clubs.

Dungarvan Golf Triangle

A major selling point of our three courses, Dungarvan Golf Club, Gold Coast Golf Club and ourselves West Waterford Golf Club is that we are all within 5 minutes drive of Dungarvan town center. The “Dungarvan Golf Triangle” effectively, allows you to purchase a ticket that enables you to play each of the three courses, Monday to Friday for the combined price of €80, and in this era of high green fee rates, this represents good value. ‘The Dungarvan Golf Triangle’ is being advertised through all the usual mediums and is on sale in each of the three golf clubs. Tickets are valid up to 31st December 2008.
