Park Hotel Sport Star Awards
A large West Waterford Golf Club contingent were in attendance at the Park Hotel on Saturday night last to support 2007 Irish Youths champion Seamus Power and Justin Spratt, Team captain of the All Ireland Junior Foursomes team, both of whom were monthly award winners in the Park Hotel Sport star series of 2007.
A fantastic night was had by all as the large crowd looked back on the sporting achievements and exploits of all our stars from the Deise. With formidable competition from several other sporting achievements in 2007 it was not to be however for the golfing entries on this occasion, The award for Supreme Sport Star of the year for 2007 went to Waterford’s Senior Hurler, Dan Shanahan, Well done to all and best wishes in the 2008 season. Full story elsewhere in this newspaper
Names Only on Timesheets and Cancelled Tee times
With more limited time available for play and increased playing numbers, the practice of putting down a name +1 or +2 is no longer acceptable and as such will be removed from the timesheet. Only individual names will suffice as this facilitates the smooth running of the timesheet, by identifying who is actually booked in to play and with whom. All members are also urged to telephone the office, at the earliest opportunity, if they wish to cancel a tee time that they have previously booked. Players with their names on the timesheet have priority on the 1st tee.
New Rules of Golf Booklet
There have been a number of revisions made to the Rules of Golf and consequently new booklets have been produced by the R&A. There is a limited supply of these new booklets available in the office and they will be distributed on a strictly first come first served basis.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions for the 2008 season are now due, we would like to thank those who have already paid for their prompt response, and request all members who haven’t paid to please submit the appropriate amount to the office, by post or in person at their earliest convenience.
Dungarvan Golf Triangle
A major selling point of our three courses, Dungarvan Golf Club, Gold Coast Golf Club and ourselves West Waterford Golf Club is that we are all within 5 minutes drive of Dungarvan town center. The “Dungarvan Golf Triangle” effectively, allows you to purchase a ticket that enables you to play each of the three courses, Monday to Friday for the combined price of €80, and in this era of high green fee rates, this represents good value. ‘The Dungarvan Golf Triangle’ is being advertised through all the usual mediums and is on sale in each of the three golf clubs. Tickets are valid up to 31st December 2008.
Fixture Booklet
Our fixture booklet for the 2008 season is now well on the way to being with the publishers, as several members of the Committee are putting together the final nuts and bolts of the calendar for 2008. It should be published in approximately two weeks time and will be freely available in the office. All members are urged to pick up a copy in order to make themselves familiar with the up and coming events of what promises to be an extremely busy golfing year at West Waterford Golf and Country Club.
Deise Golf Pass News
As previously mentioned in dispatches, it was agreed between the Golf Clubs of the Deise Golf Pass initiative, to proceed with a series of Open Winter Competitions. There will be 5 qualifiers each week in each Golf Club (3 members and 2 non-members), which will mean that there will be 100 golfers for the Grand Final which will take place in April, with a precise date and venue to be arranged. West Waterford’s second week will take place from 3rd March to 9th March 2008.
